According to a research on climate change released by Accenture, almost nine out of ten consumers all over the world declared that they would switch to energy providers that help to decrease the greenhouse gas emission level. The survey was made in 17 countries in Asia, Europe and North America, and the study revealed that almost 89 percent of all consumers all over the world wanted to switch to energy providers that offer lower-carbon-emitting products.



97 percent of the consumers in Brazil, China and India declared that they are highly concerned about climate change, and 98 percent said that they believe that change in climate will affect their lives directly to a great extent. Respondents in these three countries are also conscious of the amount of effort necessary for their countries to meet their goals for decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.

About 54 percent of the respondents said that if their present provider doesn't take any action to address climate change, they would switch to electricity and gas providers. 61 percent of the respondents have the same opinion of their oil providers. 64 percent of respondents said that they are ready to pay higher price for products that generate lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Sander van 't Noordende, group chief executive of Accenture's Resources operating group said, "Accenture's research suggests that while the initial impact in business terms may be most evident on energy providers, it seems likely that this impact will increasingly spread to other resources companies either directly or as the impacts trickle through the supply chain from consumer-facing businesses."

About 80 percent of the consumers said that they feel that change in climate will have great effect on the ecosystem and weather as well, and 74 percent said that it will also have a vital effect on the health of the people. The research also reveals that the consumers have already started acting on their concerns about climate change. Majority of the survey respondents said that they recycle paper or plastic frequently, shut down electric devices when not in use, and also use high-efficiency light bulbs. About 41 percent said that they purchase products containing recycled material regularly.
