If you are one of several fortunate people who has received an interview call for the job you have been tirelessly pursuing, first off congratulations. Now it is time to start prepping for the final step towards successfully landing a job wherever you may reside in the world. So how do you prepare yourself for this crucial moment in your life?



Study your resume and think of any irregularities that the interviewer may ask you about. Think of additional accomplishments and experiences to further reinforce your skills and your suitability for this job. Think of how you can apply your skills and experiences to your new job to benefit the company.

You have already researched the job requirements and the company and industry for your resume and cover letter. It is important to know the past, present and future of the company and industry in reasonable detail and to be hold a conversation about your views and how things can be improved. Think of questions related to your field that you can ask the interviewer to show your curiosity and eagerness to learn.

Part of your interview will be small talk and most of it specifically targeted towards your resume, job position, company and industry. It's always good practice to stay abreast current events in politics, sports, entertainment and even business practices. Read headlines and scan over current events. This will help you make small talk in almost any subject and portray you as a person who stays in touch with news and has a general interest in what is going on in the world. This practice will also provide you further information related to your field.

Common questions to ask the interviewer can be regarding additional job description, what will your specific role be and the type of work you will be doing on a daily baisis, growth path and training frequency. You might want to avoid topics related to pay and benefits on your very first interview.

Come up with a list of questions you expect to be asked by the interviewer. These should include questions on the industry, job, your personal short, medium and long term goals, plans and achievements, your ability to work in a team or as a team leader, your strengths and weaknesses and ideas and creativity. The interviewer may ask questions pertaining to one or more of these topics in a more subtle way. It is your job to identify what exactly he means and answer accordingly.

Get your suit ready. Unless otherwise stated, dress conservatively in the usual business attire and choose your colors wisely. For less conservative industries a prominent tie might help create an impression of enthusiasm and energy but be wise in how you dress. Physical appearances do matter.

Keep practicing your interview over and over again in your mind or with a friend. Try to cover all possible scenarios. If your interview requires you to solve industry specific problems, as is common in consulting jobs, try and obtain sample questions from the company site or a career related website. Expect and be prepared for everything.

To be relaxed and alert during the interview you have to rest. Try and get at least eight to nine hours of sleep the day before your interview to wake up fresh and arrive on time at the interview. Remember to be there twenty to thirty minutes before the interview starts.

Do not be nervous and start biting your nails. If you have done your research well, practiced a lot and rested, you'll walk in confident and win the interviewer over with your quick responses and relevant knowledge. Best of luck.
