Ok. So we all know the story. Boy meets girl; they like each other, so boy dates girl; and then later on, boy marries girl, they build a family, and in the end everyone lives happily ever after, right? Well, as we all know, it rarely happens that way especially considering the fact that more than half the married couples in the United States usually end in their marriage in divorce.
A lot of time and money is spent during that whole process. The whole process of divorce and prenuptial agreements might be the first thing you would probably think about but let's take it back to where it all started; the engagement ring. A few days ago, I was perusing a few forums on the internet and someone had written a long story concerning their divorce and in the end they had one question, "What should I do with my engagement ring?"
As you would probably guess there were primarily two different answers, keep it or sell it. If it were me, I would go with the latter of the two. Why would I want to keep something that symbolizes a relationship that went awry? That's not my style. I'd sell it and use it for something important.
Who am I kidding? It'd be for something to spoil myself with.
Before pawning it or just selling to anybody who runs a business, the first thing I would do is get it evaluated by a trusted jeweler. A trusted jeweler will look for its size, cut, value, and inspect its condition. Next, I would have the jeweler clean and repair it if there were any problems. After this I would take professional pictures of the ring, research the selling prices for the ring, and then post the price of the ring in the classified sections of newspapers or other outlets. When doing this, it's always best to make sure that you have the original box, proof of cleaning, and any other original documents to show the buyer.
We all know that marriage isn't always promised to last forever and that divorces can be very difficult to get through. Hopefully, you won't have to go through the process of divorce, however, just in case you do, you'll have a little bit of spending money!
