The rapper DMX found himself once again in the slammer after allegedly skipping out on a court appearance. He was arrested on December 9 for his failure to show up at a scheduled court date in Phoenix, Arizona. He has been in and out of rehab in Florida for several weeks now and has pleaded not guilty to a variety of charges, including drug possession, identity theft and animal cruelty in Arizona. The rapper has encountered many criminal problems throughout his adult life and holds an extensive arrest record. DMX initially rose to fame in the late 1990s with his particular knack for party-going rap beats. As a youngster, DMX found himself consistently on the streets committing crimes or living in group homes, and as a result of his difficult childhood he turned to hip-hop as a means to escape. In the early 1990s, he started releasing tracks but didn't receive much airplay or attention in the industry, that is until he started appearing alongside famed performers LL Cool J, Mase and The LOX.

He released his debut major-label single under Def Jam Recordings called “Get Me a Dog.” Not long after the release date, it was officially certified gold. His major-label album, It's Dark and Hell is Hot, followed soon after in May 1998. It debuted at the impressive top spot on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. And Then There Was X arrived in December 1999 and debuted at number one on the pop charts. The resulting single, “Party Up,” has become his most well-known song and also became a prominent Top Ten hit on the R&B charts. And Then There Was X became his best selling album to date. The Great Depression, his fourth album was more of an introspective look at the artist's life and career and also debuted at number one, although it didn't gather as much attention as his previous releases. DMX followed with Grand Champ, followed shortly by Year of the Dog…Again.

DMX's music also appeared on some movie soundtracks, including that of the Jet Li flick Cradle 2 the Grave. Incidentally, DMX also appeared in the film, boasting his acting abilities.
