Scotland is a wonderful land of mountains and lochs, surrounded by the sea and ever close to a long and fascinating history.  In a countryside that always inspires, dotted with crofter's huts and fishermen's cottages, renting a luxury castle in Scotland presents an intriguing opportunity to both relax and learn more about this fascinating land.

While planning your trip to a Scottish castle the first thing is to choose the place to stay. There are many self catering castles in Scotland that vary in size, age, location, and a set of activities available. Many castles are home to museums and art galleries providing captivating glimpses into the country's culture and traditions of art. There is always entertainment available. Most castles have a village nearby with good restaurants and local shops. Golf courses are usually within easy reach of castles. Many castles have tennis courts and billiard rooms, some have swimming pools; and should the evening air cool then a game of backgammon or chess next to the fire is always a delight.

Scotland is rich in rivers and lochs ? and we must mention the most famous - Loch Ness. This is an ideal place for those who enjoy fishing and water sports. Loch Ness has always been one of the main Scottish attractions. There is ideal accommodation standing on the shores of the loch. Originally built as fortress 350 years ago and thence used as an abbey, the building has been sympathetically and elegantly transformed into luxury holiday apartments. At present it offers its visitors premier holiday rentals.

Scottish castles belonged to some important kings, clan chiefs and noblemen ? and thus are situated in the locations of great charm and natural beauty, often beside lochs and forests. So staying in a luxury holiday castle is an opportunity to wake up in the peace and tranquility of the countryside, many with a view of lakes and mountains from your bedroom window. Moreover, staying in a castle is perfect for a big family or group of friends ? certainly enough rooms and space for children to play.
