Much in the same way that you push the call button for the elevator at the mall, you have a set of call controls for the dumbwaiter. These are generally mounted on the wall on each floor that has an opening for the dumbwaiter. The dumbwaiter will automatically stop when it reaches the intended floor. The doors are designed in such a way that the dumbwaiter will not operate unless they are completely shut. This prevents most if not all of the accidents and mishaps that were associated with old fashioned manual dumbwaiters. The cars are also designed to stop if they hit an obstruction in the dumbwaiter shaft. This prevents damage to the machine and allows the user to clear the obstruction safely and without fear of the car slipping or falling.

You should always make sure the track and actual dumbwaiter unit is clean of dust and debris. This can be done with any household cleaner and should be done at least once a year. Remember to clean up any spills in the car immediately. It is also imperative that you never allow children or animals to ride in or play with the dumbwaiter. Dumbwaiters are only for freight and should never be used to transport anything else.

Before attempting to service your product you should always contact your dealer. It is also imperative that the dumbwaiter will not run unless all doors are closed. This prevents accidents and so be sure that you do not try to bypass any sensors. It is also important to keep the lifting capacity in mind when you are moving freight.

By properly using and maintaining your dumbwaiter you can insure that this great investment lasts you for many years. Not only do they provide an incredibly valuable service, by saving work and time, they also can add value to your home.
