There are a number of problems that you can encounter with eyeliners and these include the fact that liquid eyeliner can easily smudge. You might also find that your pencil eyeliner looks a bit think and doesn't give you the flexibility that you need or want.



By using your eye shadow as eyeliner you can a number of benefits. Firstly it is generally easier to apply you eye shadow and get the affect you are after. In addition to that you get more out of your make up and so often need to have less make up available at any one time, which can save you money.

There are a few techniques that are useful to know to be able to use your eye shadow the way that you want and below are the main ones we have put together:

1. Firstly you will need to make sure you have a flat make up brush. It is important it is a brush and not the usual pads that come with most eye shadows. These brushes do not usually cost much and can be found at most shops that sell cosmetics.

2. You will need a spray bottle filled with water. You might be able to buy spray bottles that you can fill. However it is usually easier to use an old perfume bottle or old spray you have in your house. If you then make sure this is completely clean before you use it you will find you have a great tool.

3. To begin your eye shadow application, use your spray bottle to spray some water onto your make up brush. Make sure you use a tissue to wipe off any excess water. You do not want your make up brush to be completely wet, just a little bit damp.

4. We would recommend using a dark eye shadow, like black or brown, depending on your colouring. This will make a more natural affect, however if you want to create some more party type affects you can experiment with different colour. Once you have selected the eye shadow you are going to use, dip you damp brush into the eye shadow.

5. Start with your upper eye lid and just put the tip of the brush onto the lid, right up against the eye lashes. Make sure you look down so that you keep your eyelid as smooth as possible. Now you can tap the eye shadow onto your eye and slowly more the brush along your eye lid tapping as you go to get a nice line of eye shadow.

6. You can now move on to adding some eye shadow under the eye. Apply some more eye shadow to the brush and again place the tip of the brush on the lower lid up to the lashes. Tap the eye shadow onto the lid and move towards the outside of the eye. To give yourself a more smokey look, make the line of eye shadow think as you move out. Make sure your slightly smudge the line if you do this.

You now have great looking eyes with very little effort at all.
