If you are not new to network marketing I am sure you faced MLM resistance from your prospects a lot of times. With that term I am referring to the resistance that prospects show when you try to talk to them about your business opportunity and you tell them that is a multilevel marketing opportunity. Suddenly all the openness and willingness to hear and possibly participate in an opportunity vanishes when the word MLM is mentioned.
It seems that most of the people are conditioned to react negatively to this word probably through years of misinformation about our industry and due to many distributors that used tactics in the gray zone in order to recruit new members to their network. Unfortunately the last one continues until today as there are many new members to multilevel marketing that get instructed to swarm to their friends and relatives and do whatever possible to have them join their MLM opportunity. Sometimes these members get so overzealous that push them hard and come across to their warm market like the worst kind of salesman who see them only as potential numbers in his downline.
But no matter how we got to this point you have to accept that MLM resistance exists and learn to do with it. So be prepared to talk a lot about how our business model truly operates and overcome their objections. Of course many distributors driven by their desire to increase their conversion rates hide the fact that it is about a network marketing opportunity until they reach a point where their prospect is almost sold to the idea of starting his own home based business.
That is something I wouldn't suggest to start doing as you may come across as untruthful and your prospects would sense that you are hiding something from them, something that you are afraid to reveal. It is much better to clear this thing from the beginning no matter what extra troubles would give you in terms of giving a lot of explaining in order to reveal to them how misinformed they are than hiding it to a later time.
After all, they may become your future members of your MLM downline and possible leaders that would build their own successful networks. You want to treat them accordingly and be straightforward from the beginning. After all, you are a leader that brings value to them and you try to qualify them. Would such a person need to hide something? Of course not and neither should you. Trust me, in the long run it would do much more good to your network marketing business to be direct than hide things.
From my experience I noticed people that were informed at the last stages that it was about an MLM opportunity and although they finally joined they never accomplished anything. In fact most of them after a few days or weeks regretted what they have done and stopped showing up to the meetings and gatherings of the network. So if they knew from the beginning what was all about perhaps they would have denied, saving the distributor from a lot of wasted time chasing them and following up with them. Or perhaps he would have the chance to thoroughly explain to them how the multilevel marketing business model works and would have been convinced and stay.
But no matter what their reaction would have been you have to recognize that you are a business leader. You give the facts to people and the chance to decide themselves if this model fits to their plans or not. You are not trying to elicit reactions or do button pushing like a salesman. Because if you do this the outcome would be short lived. Your prospect would have the feeling that it was tricked into this and sooner or later, but most probably sooner, he would leave your network and your MLM business opportunity and would talk to everyone about what sneaky methods you tried to use on him.
As you can see if you want to build long term wealth from you business you have to treat it like a real business and do the things that in the long run would help your business more and give the most returns. Being straightforward and direct with the people you come in contact with is one of the traits of a good leader and a superb business practice not only in MLM but in any business.
So don't give too much attention and thought to your prospects resistance and how to avoid it. Do what you know to do and don't bother yourself with how your prospects might react. Most would say no but you would find many that would agree to join your MLM company as distributors and these people would do a lot for your network and some of them would become the leaders that you were seeking to duplicate your success.
