Fort Bend County Appraisal
If you were to live in one of the Fort Bend County gated communities, what are the things that you have to look forward to experiencing as a resident? Of course, being home to many gated communities, the area promises to be a safe and comfortable environment that you can live in. But are there other things that a potential homeowner can expect from living in one of the Fort Bend County gated communities?

Well, some local attractions you can visit while living in the area are the Brazos Bend State Park, the Challenger Center, the Community Theater, the Fair and Livestock Show, the Fort Bend Museum, the George Memorial Genealogical Collections, the George Observatory, the George Ranch Historical Park, golf courses, the Great Southwest Equestrian Center, the Morton Cemetery, the Railroad Museum, the Richmond Historical District, the Rosenberg Antique District, the Seabourne Creek Park, the Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center, and the Museum of Southern History.

In the Brazos Bend State Park, 4,897 acres of bottomlands of the nearby Brazos River have been preserved, with stately oak trees and deep lakes gracing the park grounds. Residents of these communities can expect to spot alligators, waterfowl, coyotes and whitetail deer within the park. Nature lovers can spend hours fishing, or going on picnics. The Forth Bend Challenger Center is also located within the state park and is a memorial to the seven astronauts that died on the Challenger space vehicle (which exploded in 1986). The Community Theater is a non-profit organization, which provides entertainment to residents, and visitors of the Fort Bend gated communities. It even hosts theater programs for children, even those who are of pre-school age.

The Fort Bend County Fair and Livestock Show is another treat that people residing in the community can look forward to seeing. It is held from late September to early October every year, and is participated in by a host of school bands, with floats and drill teams highlighting ten days of band performances, folk and country dancing, youth-and adult-oriented exhibits, auctions, rides, and even great food.

If you want to know how this area came to be inhabited by its first settlers, look no further than the award-winning Fort Bend Museum. You will discover how the Old 300 relied on the initiative of Stephen F. Austin to start the settlement of Fort Bend County, and can immerse yourself in over 100 years of the area's history and the whole state of Texas as well.

You will also learn why certain communities among the Fort Bend County gated communities carry such interesting names like New Territory, and First Colony. If you are a long-time resident of the area but want to know how far back your roots in the county actually go, you can visit the George Memorial Genealogical Collections. Do not worry, there is no charge for admission.

Luckily, this area also boasts of its own Observatory whose telescope is considered the largest in the United States, which is open to the public. Visitors from schools and other such tour groups are allowed to visit. The observatory is housed within the Brazos Bend State Park.

At the George Ranch Historical Park, one can take a walk back into the history of four generations of ranchers in the state. It is available for visits by the public everyday.

Golf, which seems to have become the national pastime, can be enjoyed in four golf courses: the Old Orchard Golf Course, the Golf Club at Cinco Ranch, the Greatwood Golf Course, and the Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club.

If horseback riding is more your thing, try going to the Great Southwest Equestrian Center. There you can watch many horse shows and events. Does someone in the family, maybe a little tike of yours, want to learn to ride a horse? Then this horseback-riding complex is the place to go to.

Morton Cemetery may interest those who would like to know where early settlers of Fort Bend County are presently buried. Perhaps someone in your family was one of these early settlers? Then do take some time to lay some fresh flowers on their gravesite, as your way of paying homage to those early ancestors of yours.

As you can see, there is quite a lot to see and do in Fort Bend County. So try not to remain a stranger and visit Fort Bend County today.
