In practice, what you do is sign up with an intermediate site like ClickBank, choose a product to promote, and proceed to place ads on either your own website, search engines like Google, or through more conventional means like Articles, mailing lists etc.

No interaction with customers is needed, and you will not be a salesperson, but a Marketer. The difference being that you only place advertising to direct people towards the site that actually sells, and get paid if people buy something from them.

It is a simple, efficient way to increase your income from home, and takes very little time to put into practice.

It is very important, though, to find solid learning to back your actions, so as to avoid mistakes that decrease profit.

Some people give up on it simply because, without proper education, they find themselves at a loss as to what and where to do to promote their products, or worse yet: not knowing what to promote and to whom.

It is very important when starting out to choose products that are easy to distinguish within specific groups. For example, Ringtones are worth gold, because it is easy to target (young people, usually 18 to 25), easy to sort (music, so good options to promote are in lyrics sites, music stores, band blogs etc.) and usually very easy to sell, because they are cashed in with the phone's bill, and do not require customers to have a credit card, checks, paypal, or even to be over 18. And for every ringtone sold through your link, money in the bank for you, the marketer. Even a few sales a day can cash in a hefty sum at the end of a month, easily topping a usual wage.

Learning is the key, and the payoffs are great, sometimes even enough to quit your job altogether, and start working for profit instead of a wage.
