They want to follow in the foot steps of someone who is already successful. Notice the headline of this article again. It implies you can learn how to get emails opened just like I do, you don't have to reinvent the wheel.

I'm giving you tips that are already proven to work and answering the question of how to get emails opened. When people see a result they always want to know "how did you do that?" Think about it. You see a friend who has lost 20 pounds and the first thing you ask is "how did you do it?" Or if your neighbor has a great looking lawn you ask, "how did you get it so green?" People will open a message if they think they will get their question answered.

When you are constructing an email subject line or a headline of any kind you must address station WIIFM. This stands for What's In It For Me. People are interested in themselves and they will only be interested in you and your mailings if you show them the potential results they can expect. The main focus for your email list should be to overdeliver on value and always give the reader what they want, this will practically guarantee that your emails are opened and read every time and will more than likely give you a much higher response rate when you are hoping for it.

You should ask your prospects to give you their first name as this can be very useful when sending them emails and trying to reach them on a personal level, if you can address them to their first name it will seem much more personal to each individual and will also help to get your email read.

You should also be asking your prospects to provide you with their primary email address as you don't want them to give you one they rarely use.
