How To Split Ends

    View:
Split ends, hair SOS (or trichoptlosis), are the bane of every self-respecting woman's life! They happen when the protective cuticle has been stripped away from the ends of hair fibers. Split ends are more likely to develop in dry or brittle hair, and typical causes of damage include excessive dying or vigorous brushing.

Once the hair cuticle is removed, it is impossible to replace. Typically the hair splits into two or three strands, and can be as long or two to three centimeters in length. The best treatment is to cut off the split end of the damaged fiber.

The expensive salon stylist does not have to be your only answer. In the early 60's and 70's some women even burned off their split ends themselves. A little over the top, I am sure you can agree.

There are easier ways to get rid of your dead ends before they split further... DIY (do-it-yourself) hair trims. Don't be afraid, everyone does it!

Supermodels who openly take the snip between salon appointments include Natasha Vojnovic, Giselle Bundchen (of Dior advertisement fame), and Liya Kebede. In a recent Vogue interview, Sam McKnight, hairstylist to the stars, said "I'm all for people doing their own hair. It shows confidence and individuality. You can loose dry ends, add layers, even do a whole haircut yourself, although this is not for the fainthearted."

Those individuals who are happy with their hair and only want a trim are best suited for a do it yourself re-style. A do in yourself haircut. If you are uncomfortable with this, allow the professionals to do the job.

The removal of split ends:

Small sections of hair should be twisted in a gentle downward motion. Split ends will be obvious. Take your scissors and cut through the thickness to remove the damaged hair and give a natural layered look.

Cut the same amount from each twist. The simple, least expensive ideas are sometime the best ideas. Get to trimming.
How To Split Ends
Your hair is frizzy even on the sunniest day of the year. You look like you’ve fried your mane one too many times. You can’t seem to get the kinks out the end of your tresses. So, what can you attribute these bad hair days to? Many women are finding that with today’s damaging atmosphere, it is almost impossible to keep their mane looking it’s best. Statistics show that even after regular visits to the hair salon and scheduled trimmings, split ends still manage to rear their ugly heads. The wearing down of your hair follicles due to dirty air, over processing, and poor maintenance can cause split ends to dominate your appearance. Who wants to look as if someone has just sprayed your do with a light mist of due!! The truth of the matter is, if your ends have split to the roots, you will continue to have split ends no matter how many trims you receive. The good news is that there are ways to deal with these unwelcome split ends and to revitalize even the most damaged frizziest looking head of hair.

Your hair needs moisture just as much as your body does! Split ends can only thrive in dry conditions. One way to combat these ends is to face them head on and attack them even before they began. Unfortunately, for most women, split ends have already attacked. The good news…. moisture still treats recurring split ends. Discover a good moisturizing shampoo, conditioner, and daily crème to combat the potential damage. There are a myriad of products on the market specified to treat split ends. The key is to find a good product, use it, and maintain the regiment in order to see desired results. If you are a swimmer, or find yourself washing your hair in excess for whatever reason, you are robbing your hair of the opportunity to build it’s own natural moisturizers. So, it is now your job to replenish that shine and moisture.

A natural herb supplement can help to invigorate your hair from within. A good vitamin and herb supplement can add to your body what it is lacking to produce shiny beautiful hair that you’re missing. Also a good diet consisting of plenty of vegetables containing vitamins A, C, D, and E can only facilitate your body’s ability to produce healthy hair. Go ahead and invest in a good hair vitamin, which will usually contain all of these nutrients that aid in healthy hair, when taken with a healthy diet. Be careful, not to overdose on your vitamins. One supplement that contains all of the nutrients will probably do the trick.

It may sound trite, but take good care of yourself, and your hair will thank you for it. Get plenty of rest, eat well, and take your vitamins to combat those hideous split ends. Don’t forget to replace lost moisture in your hair, and keep your regularly scheduled salon appointments with an expert hair tech. Your hair will show what good health your body is in! Enjoy your new head of shiny healthy hair!
