1. Watering

Over-watering is responsible for the demise of most house-plants. Looks can be deceptive, so ascertain whether your soil is dry enough to water, put into action try the 'finger test'. Insert your index finger up to the first joint into the soil. If the soil is damp, the plant isn't yeat ready to be receive water again. It's a simple as that.

2. Feeding

Foliage plants usually require a high degree of nitrogen, whereas where flowering plants are cincerned, K2O is needed. Slow release fertilizers can be mixed in with the compost. It is important to take note, however, that certain plants like cacti and orchids require special fertilizers. Plants require feeding during their most active growth period.

3. Lighting

Plants such as Sanseveria and Aspidistra require no sun. This means that they can be locateded away from a window. Spider plants need semi-shade. You can keep plants like these near a window that does or does not get direct sunlight. If in doubt, check the label to see what your plant needs, or seek advice at your local garden center.

4. Temperature

House-plants can live in both cool or warm temperatures, but note however, that drastic fluctuations of temperature may cause them some harm. One type of heat that spells certain death for many house plants is gas heating. Also, if you have a plant that thrives under warm conditions, don't keep it near an air conditioner in the summer.

5. Humidity

Some houseplants require a humid environment. One tip to maximize humidity is to put the pot inside a larger pot and fill in the gaps with stones or compost to keep in the moisture. Grouping plants together often creates a microclimate that they will benefit from. If you want, you can spray them with water once or twice a day depending on the temperature.

6. Re-potting

There are those plants that require re-potting for optimum growth, but there are others that resent having their roots disturbed. It may eve be the case that heir roots-system may be small enough that they do not need to be repotted. One way to check whether your plant needs re-potting is simply to turn it upside down and tap the pot to release the plant and check its roots. If roots are all you see, then it's definitely time to re-pot. Sometimes you will see roots protruding out of the bottom of the pot. You should either cut them off or re-pot the plant entirely.

You just need to have a little care for your plants and in turn, they will love you back. Indoor plants not only add to the beauty of your home, but they also offer a great deal of pleasure to the indoor gardener.

If you own a poodle, you will find that one of the expenses that will start eating away at your pocket book is grooming them! Many people are finding that grooming poodles themselves can both help them save their money and help them get to know their pet a little bit better as well. While the art of poodle grooming might seem a little esoteric, the truth is, anyone who has a bit of patience and a willingness to help their pet look the best that it can can do a fairly accomplished job.

When you are looking into grooming standard poodles, you will find that the process will generally take around three hours once you have had some experience. When you are just getting started, you may find that you need to spread the grooming out over several days, to give you and your dog a bit of rest. After a few sessions, you'll get the hang of it, but if the time commitment isn't really for you, you'll find that you can get a dog groomer to do it for you.

Remember that you have a choice of trims available to you when you are thinking of grooming poodles. You'll find that the poodle's curly, stiff hair will allow you to take advantage of many looks. Remember, also, though, that some looks are more care intensive and require more maintenance than others. Show poodles will certainly require more maintenance and a more conservative cut than pet poodles.

If you have a show poodle, remember that it will have a lion cut of some sort. A lion cut has three standard variations, including a puppy cut, an English saddle cut and a continental cut. You'll find that these all have ths ame standard look and they all come from a time when poodles were used to retrieve birds that had been shot into the water, as the long ruff of fur on the chest would protect the lungs and the fur on the legs would protect the bones.

For non-competing poodles, there's a lot more to choose from. You can choose a shorter trim, which is easier to maintain, and especially easier to dry in the winter. longer trims are showier, but they'll require more maintenance. Check some grooming books, or take a look at a few poodles to figure out what you prefer.

When you are considering grooming poodles, you'll find that clipping the fur on the feet, face and the bottom of the tail very short for hygienic reasons, because it will allow for less food to get trapped there. You'll find that when you clip the that things don't get trapped between their toes, and you'll also find that the shorter the coat is, the easier it is to cut and dry. Remember to wash your poodle before you groom it to keep your tools in good shape, and the better the equipment you get the better off you'll be.
