Lawn & Garden Tractors

    View:
In this article, you will learn more about when garden tractors were invented and how to work the garden tractor safely. You will also learn how to increase your fuel economy. If you are an amateur gardener who uses a garden tractor to maintain your garden, then you will want to use this article to help you do your work more efficiently.

Garden Tractor Development

Near the end of the nineteenth century, garden tractors were invented. The first garden tractors were powered by steam until just before WWI when diesel garden tractors came on the scene. Garden tractors were quickly used for all different facets of farm work, including digging and moving soil. The invention of the garden tractor has great increased a farmer's efficiency in taking care of a farm.

Choosing a Garden Tractor

Choosing between the many different sizes and manufacturers of garden tractors may be overwhelming. There are a few things that you need to keep in mind to help you make your decision. The first thing is the size of your area that you are going to use the tractor on. If you have less than an acre, then you will want one that is 2-3 horsepower. If you have a larger area that you are using it on, then you will need to get a garden tractor that has between 15 to 20 horsepower. This can enable you to move boulders and do other normal maintenance farm work.

Operating Garden Tractors Safely

Usually when you are doing work with a garden tractor, you are alone. That is why it is essential that you learn to use garden tractors safely. By employing the following safety tips, you can help to keep yourself and your family safe from any accident, from small to large.

• Keep your garden tractor in optimum condition. Make sure that it is able to do the work that you need it to do.

• Anytime you drive garden tractors, you need to be sure that you use the seat belts. This will help to keep you safely on the tractor.

• If you are doing work on a new patch of land, then you will want to walk out the area to ensure that there is no debris or other problem that can cause you harm when you are driving the garden tractor.

• Stay focused on the work that you are doing at all times.

• Extra riders should not ever ride garden tractors. This is very dangerous.

• Hand brakes should always be used when stopping the tractor to make sure that the tractor does not move due to gravity.

Saving Gas

• Make sure that the garden tractors are in good running condition so that they will use the fuel efficiently.

• Fuel filters should be changed regularly. Service the garden tractors on a regular basis and use fuel additive to help clean the fuel injectors.

• Air filters should be changed or cleaned regularly. This will help to increase the fuel efficiency.

• Never overload the tractor.
Lawn & Garden Tractors
Early Stages of Development

The garden tractors were invented towards the end of nineteenth century. The early garden tractors were driven be steam engine. The diesel engine driven tractors appeared just before the First World War. The tractors were immediately adopted for various farm works, such as digging, lifting the soil and putting it somewhere else. This has greatly helped farmers in reducing manual work in farms.

Selection Of Garden Tractors

Selection of garden tractor for your garden will depend primarily on the area you are going to cultivate or maintain with your tractor. If the area is less than an acre, you may consider buying a small tiller with 2 to 3 HP. If the area is large, say more than 5 acres and the area has large boulders which you may want to move, you will have to go in for a large tractor with 15 to 20 HP machine. If the boulders are moved by an external agency as a one-time job, then a smaller tractor will also serve your purpose of normal maintenance of your garden.

Safe Operation of Garden Tractors

Since you would be working in your garden unaided, it is necessary that you operate your tractor in a safe way. In case you have even a minor accident, it may not be possible for you to contact your family members easily. Therefore, it is necessary for you to adopt safe practices all the time.

Ensure that the tractor is in god working condition, and designed for work that you plan to do.

Use seat belts while driving tractor. Unless the tractor turns turtle, you will be safe.

If you are going long distance and with load, on a new path, it is a god idea to walk this section of ground and see any potential trouble that you are likely to encounter.

Keep you eyes on the work you are doing. Do not get distracted.

Do not drive with extra riders on garden tractors EVER.

Always use hand brakes after stopping the tractor or make a positive arrangement so that tractor does not move on its own due to gravity.

Fuel Saving Tips For Garden Tractors

Keep the tractors in trim condition.

Change the fuel filters regularly. Maintain the cleanliness of injectors by servicing tractor regularly. Use fuel additive to reduce fuel injector cleaning frequency.

Clean or change air filters regularly. Clean air and clean fuel accounts for increased fuel efficiency.

Last but not the least; do not overload your tractor.
