If the types of advertising videos seen during the Best of Broadband Awards are something to go by, marketers and their expert partners are getting smarter at figuring out what makes online advertisement work. An case in point would be Electronic Arts’ “Tiger Woods ’09 Walk on Water". It started off when YouTube user levinator25 uploaded on the site what could be a problem in EA’s ’08 Tiger Woods commercial that showed the champion golfer walking on water. EA capitalized on this and created an advertisement which illustrated Woods actually walking on water to confirm that the alleged glitch wasn’t one at all, just real skill. EA even obeyed YouTube protocol by uploading the ad as a reply to levinator25’s video.

One more famous advertising video comes from Nike. It demonstrates basketball star Kobe Bryant leaping on top of an Aston Martin. This certainly doesn’t look like your regular Nike commercial and is made to appear as a piece of admirer video Kobe only turns out to be in. While the board presenters at the conference maintained this was a genuine viral video with no participation by Nike and its agency, this was not the case. It was filmed by Nike in less than 30 minutes and for a fee far less than the typical commercial budget.

Nintendo also striked one out of the ballpark with its Wario Land commercial, created by Goodby, Silverstein and Partners. In the commercial Mario plays the game, with action so strong that the YouTube page begins falling separately leaving nothing on the page but the video player as the video ends. Approximately 4.5 million viewers and supporters have viewed the advertisement and is an evidence to how excellent content conceptualized by advertisers and publishers can make all the difference in the world of Internet advertising video.

This vibrant and greater than before interaction among producers, publishers, advertisers and supporters remains to accelerate and it would be safe to assume that we will be seeing even better fare next year in spite of the recession.
