In the poker business, we observed incredible growth in recent years. Many people are making big money during this boom in the industry. Let's see how business people have made big bucks from this increase in poker activity.

First, let's see why this boom has happened. We saw three distinct events that created the increase in action at the poker tables. Now, in chronological order, this is what happened that created the increase in poker activity.

It all starts in 1994 when polish poker player, entrepreneur, Henry Orenstein developed, and patented, the know how for the the "pocket cam". The fans are now able to see the pocket cards that each of the players have while the hands are being played out. The first appearance of this invention took place in 1997 on the british show late night poker.

Poker had been on TV since the 70's, but had a very small viewing audience. This was due to fact that not knowing what cards the players had, you couldn't follow what the players were betting with. The hole card camera made watching poker on TV very exciting.

The next thing that led to the poker boom was the beginning of the online poker rooms. The first internet poker room was opened in 1998. People are now able to play in the tranquil environment of anywhere they want that they can get online. The online poker rooms will display a growing player base as people learned of these new poker rooms.

Now we're ready for the third event that caused the boom. So, when Chris Moneymaker wins the WSOP World Championship of Poker in 2003, we see poker explode. Getting into the Main Event by winning a $40 satellite at an online poker site, then winning pokers most coveted tournament, sets off this unique boom.

The combination of the pocket camera improving the popularity of watching poker on TV, and the expansion of online poker rooms broadening the player base, set things up for the poker boom that the Moneymaker win set off. With the world seeing an online, amateur player, win the biggest tournament in poker, people flocked to the tables in huge numbers.
