As a general rule, the nose of the board should come to within approximately one inch of the rider's navel when held tail-end-down and positioned vertically against the rider's body. The width of the board shouldn't make it cumbersome to carry under one arm, with heavier riders needing wider boards. Advanced riders also need to consider the nose width and the tail width of the board, as well as the board's rails and the material it's made from. I agree that catering to a wider demographic could help, but it's a tall order. One of the companies would have to stick their neck out to do that, and no one wants to invest the $ to chance it. I don't have answers other than one word ... "time". As the current generation of bodyboarders get older, some will stick with it, thereby increasing the numbers of older riders out there, which will force the companies to take a look at that age group.
