Oral Chelation Side Effects

    View:
Today is the age of metal indeed – beyond machines making the world go round on its cogs and gears, metals are also invading the human body. No, we’re not turning into androids like in your favorite sci-fi film. These metals aren’t going to make the human body more efficient and effective – quite the opposite.

From the most innocuous household objects – the aluminum frying pan, Mom’s cosmetics, the fish for dinner – to the air and water we count on to live, metallic elements like lead and mercury find their way into our bodies. They gradually accumulate in the bloodstream, increasing the risk of incurring diseases commonly associated with or affecting the circulatory system. For instance, atherosclerosis – the hardening of arteries – can be caused by prolonged exposure to and intake of metals. And that may only be the beginning. If your arteries were stiff with the plaque buildup, high blood pressure could be the next stop down the road. Chronic heart disease not much farther on.

Alternative medical practices these days (and since decades ago) offer chelation therapy to rid the body of these metals and improve circulation. Chelation involves administering substances, “chelators," that bind with metals and flush them out of the body: essentially like laxatives in function, only chelators go the extra mile. They go beyond the digestive system and into the bloodstream, tracking down these metals and taking them out with them. Ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA), an amino acid, is the chelating agent used in most cases and does particularly well against lead. EDTA also relieves constricted blood vessels of the calcium deposits that cause the hardening of artery walls and prevents any harmful free radicals.

Chelation therapy is done intravenously or orally. IV chelation injects a measured combination of the chelators and other necessary vitamins and minerals directly into the bloodstream. Doctors and other medicinal professionals are entailed to prescribe and perform the treatment. Each session takes a couple of hours, and depending on the patient’s condition, chelation therapy may have to persist for several months.

There’s an advantage and a sense of comfort in being in the hands of professionals. But because of the costs, the time consumption, and the chance of acquiring a disease from the intravenous needle, most afflicted individuals and consumers in general refer to oral chelation.

By the term itself, oral chelation involves taking in a solution or capsules like a dose of medicine or vitamins. EDTA is again the common chelator, like in IV chelation, and in this case it is usually accompanied by vitamins and natural substances that enable EDTA to be assimilated in the circulatory system.

The first successful formula for oral chelation was developed by Harry W. Hersey in 1984. Now called The Original Oral Chelation (OOC), the formula includes unprocessed honey, which allows for a faster and more efficient absorption of EDTA. Oral chelation products like OOC are widely used to prevent and reverse atherosclerosis, heart disease, and other deficiencies of the circulatory system. They’re also taken to generally enhance circulation and detoxify the body of unwanted substances.

Oral Chelation Side Effects
The statistics alone are enough to give anyone a heart attack. Heart disease is the culprit behind at least 30% of deaths in the United States, a killer even more prolific than cancer. Other afflictions of the circulatory system contribute even more fatalities to the charts, proof enough that cardiovascular disease is the prevalent health concern in Western countries.

“Cardiovascular disease" is the umbrella term for afflictions of the heart and blood vessels. Most cases of cardiovascular disease are caused by atherosclerosis, the buildup of plaque along the inner lining of arteries. Naturally elastic, blood vessels need to contract and expand accordingly to regulate blood flow. But activities like smoking, afflictions like diabetes, and the almost universal conditions of high cholesterol level, high blood pressure and excessive fatty acids gradually damage the arterial walls. The abrasions inflicted become the nooks and crannies into which plaque is accumulated over time.

Comprised of calcium, excess cholesterol and metabolic wastes, plaque renders the arterial walls to harden and become inflexible. It obstructs blood passage and the absorption of nutrients and oxygen from the bloodstream. In serious cases, a procedure called angioplasty is performed to reverse these potentially fatal effects. A balloon is used to open the blocked passage in the artery and restore or improve the flow of blood.

A more popular alternative to surgery and other costly forms of treatment is oral chelation. Practiced since decades ago, chelation therapy is essentially concerned with detoxifying the body of harmful metals. The patient is given chelating agents – substances that bind with metals in the bloodstream, then take them out of the body through the urinary track.

It was later discovered that the chelating agent Ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA), effective against lead, is also successful in removing calcium and other unwanted deposits that block the blood vessels. But rather than dealing with the costs of intravenous treatment, solvents and soft-gel capsules containing EDTA were devised and mass-produced to be taken daily. It was as simple and no different from taking vitamin supplements; it was inexpensive, convenient, and ultimately more accessible to everyone. It was the advent of oral chelation as a means to prevent heart disease.

But there were initial problems. EDTA was a synthetic amino acid. If taken in by itself, the body’s digestive system might consider it a foreign substance and neglect absorbing it into the bloodstream, where it is needed. Harry W. Hersey found a way around this roadblock in 1984. By integrating EDTA with unprocessed honey, royal jelly and choice vitamins and minerals, Hersey unlocked a formula that finally allowed for EDTA to be digested and assimilated thoroughly into the bloodstream. The formula is now called the Original Oral Chelation, a product developed and distributed by Goldshield Elite.

Oral chelation has since made significant contributions to cardiovascular wellness and overall healthy living. But anyone looking to try this alternative treatment should take to it wisely. Don’t rely on a quick fix or miraculous effects. Like how EDTA requires other ingredients for maximum effect, oral chelation also entails that the individual improves all aspects of his lifestyle for holistic and lasting wellbeing.
