In order to make the fullest use of shade you can get, choose the offset umbrellas. It is also known as the cantilever umbrella. It simply means that the pole is off center and at the side instead. Best of all, you can tilt it to an angle that effectively shades its occupants, without affecting the base of the umbrella which is heavy.

Even if yours does not come with a tilt and lock feature, you can still effectively use its shade by rotating the umbrella via a rotating arm. The tilt and lock feature just makes it even better.

The offset umbrella is by far one of the most flexible umbrella for the patio. Their special feature will allow you to place them almost anywhere. They can be beside the pool, spa or even Jacuzzi.

Dut to its very nature of flexibility, you can be sure that an offset umbrella easily adds character to your outdoor area. Be aware however, that an offset umbrella costs much more than the regular ones (those with poles in the middle).

Due to its off centre location however, one needs to be more aware of its stability with a few considerations.

The wind can be an offset umbrella's worst enemy. If yours is 10 feet diameter in measurement, then it is considered big.

The base of the umbrella therefore needs to be heavy. The minimum recommended is 100 pounds. You can get ones that are a lot heavier than this.

The less expensive choice for a heavy base is filling it with sand or concrete. This is an option you can consider.

The patio umbrellas come in plenty of sizes. No matter how big you choose, they can only shade at the most, four people.

Shapes of the umbrellas are a variety. There are roof like ones and the more complicated ones are usually the tent shaped umbrellas. The operating system of the umbrella can be easy or complicated. Some of the operating system is basic ones like the push up system. There is also rope and pulley system and electrical auto lifting system.

You have no less choice when it comes to fabric, from polyester to vinyl types. But if you want it to last longer, maintain with an application of chemicals that act as resistance to the elements.

The poles can be made from any material from wood to anodized aluminum. The height of the pole is therefore up to you. On the other hand, remember that the stability of the pole depends on its height. Tall ones are less stable even if it means more shade.

The lights comes in various styles to choose from. They will be able to create the atmosphere you would like to stimulate in the patio at night. The installation of the umbrellas all depends on the complexity of both the umbrella and lightings.

There are a few reasons why these once so cheap patio umbrellas have gone quite expensive. The ones that were available in the olden days are quite simple in nature. Now we would like to have protective elements for our umbrella. Therefore, protective shielding agents are placed on the fabrics. We also have umbrellas that are remote controlled operated and those with tilt feature. These are the features that can make life much easier for you. Therefore, paying extra for them is quite reasonable.

Don't let the cost put you off though. The very reason for it is the comfort and convenience it can afford you and your family. Think about it, even your guests benefit and all the more so when the weather condition is not too kind. Yes, you don't have to be trapped in your house just because it is too hot or that you may get a sun burn. You can enjoy the weather without sacrificing your style or comfort. I say, it is well worth it, as the more durable ones will obviously last longer, a lifetime even.
