Use Your Car Less

The most practical way to reduce gasoline use is to drive less. For near-distance trips, walking and biking are better options than driving. Not only do you reduce gasoline use, you also get to exercise. Walking and biking are cardiovascular exercises and are good for your heart.

Combining errands for a single trip compared to the usual daily errand trips is more practical with the current gas prices. Plan your errands on a weekly basis so going out on errands and driving would be lessened. And when driving, carefully plan your road trips. Avoid high terrain routes since they would require more engine work and gas. And take note of the locations and distances between the stores and offices you need transact with and of route restrictions-one-way or two-way. Know when it would be best to drive around, stay idle or park and walk the close distances between the offices and stores. A well maintained car engine entails better performance and lesser use of gasoline. Check your car's air filter and replace whenever necessary. You may also want to constantly check your tires' pressure level. Tires not properly inflated are harder to roll which makes it harder for the engine to work and requires more gas. And lastly, unload other unnecessary things from your car. A heavy and bigger car requires more work and more gas for its engine to run.

Your car's performance can also be affected by the octane level of gas. If you car has an octane level requirement, it would be best to comply. A higher octane level of gas enhances your car engine's performance. A better car engine performance signifies lesser gas use. However, if your car does not have an octane level requirement, stick to regular gas since higher octane gas costs more.
