The whole point of public speaking is to give your listening audience something to take with them. Rather it be something of entertainment, a speech of persuasion, and even just some new and interesting facts. You will want your audience members to be able to say that they absorbed something or that they do not waste their time listening to you. You will find that it can be hard to break through an audience, but you will want to utilize your emotions to convince them that they are getting something out of the time that they are spending with you.

To be an effective public speaker, you will need to use different tools in working the system. You will need a presentation skill training or effective communication skills. However, you have to realize that one of the best tools to utilize is humor. Humor will let you to change or modify the mood of the room and it will also make everybody feel more comfortable. You will want to see to it that your humor is exact, but you will also want to learn when to use it in your speech or demonstration.

Everybody will find their own way of handling with public speaking, but you will find that humor is the most widely utilized tool for speeches. You will find that humor will go along way when it comes to informing, entertaining or persuading your audience. Just because you have something serious to say and something serious to get across, it does not mean that you have to be serious. You can utilize the humor to help everybody get comfortable.

An effective presentation skill training should include techniques for humor because it is something that is understood by the general audience. Just make sure that you do everything you can to make the audience feel more comfortable, however, you should think about the humor that you want to make use. It is very essential that your speech humor fits perfectly into the speech.

You may also find that you might want to make use of humility. This is where you try to open up with your listening audience. You will be able to create a bond with the audience by telling a funny experience about yourself. There are a lot of techniques to introduce humor into the speech, but you will find that the time will always feel right. You will want to make sure that all the experiences are appropriately discussed, but also that your personal shortcomings are something that you can add to a speech to make the whole group and room feel better.

1.Prepare Prepare Prepare - The more time you spend preparing your presentation beforehand the more confident you will be on the day.

2.Get to know your audience. Put yourself in their shoes. What's in it for them? What understanding do they currently have? Do they want a detail or strategic level talk from you?

3.What's the one key goal you want to achieve by giving this presentation? Make sure that this is clear to your audience at the beginning and end of the presentation.

4.Split your presentation into a beginning a middle and an end. Use the middle section to develop your ideas.

5.Remember the power of three. Wherever possible think of things in threes. eg three key points to make at the beginining, three key points to develop further in the middle and three key points to make at the end. Your middle can further expand on the three points with three additional points each. etc

6.Brainstorm the likely questions you will be asked by your audience. Prepare answers using the Power of three.

7.Try using a mind map to help you organise your ideas into logical chunks. The clearer your thinking is the easier it should be to understand when you are presenting.

8.Avoid the trap of preparing for your presentation at the last possible minute. It will only mean you lose a night's sleep - on the night before you have to present!

9.Lead your audience through your presentation using sign-posting. Recap on what you've just covered and then use rhetorical questions to move onto the next section. Always summarise your main points just prior to the end of your presentation.

10.Plan to end your presentation with a call to action, a request for a decision to be made, or whatever you believe is the most appropriate means to achieve your overall goal.
