The Quarter Inch Cartridge tape is basically a magnetic tape technology which was brought in by 3M in the year nineteen seventy two. The width of the QIC tape is one quarter inch and the length is between three hundred and fifteen hundred feet. The Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape writes the data in a mode which is known as the serpentine mode. In this mode the tracks in the QIC tape change their direction by switching their heads. The Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape has been widely used right from its release and it has also made many changes in its format. The Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape standards are published by the trade association of QIC. This association also includes the logical formats and interfaces of QIC technology. The QIC tape uses the technique of linear recording. The Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape differs from the other data tape cartridges because it consists of a drive belt that moves at an even speed with a capstan which is motorized. As the belt is in connection with the QIC tape, the assurance of the speed and accuracy of the tape is maintained.

The design of the Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape is a solid one which includes a base plate of aluminum and a strong plastic cover. The QIC is one of the most widely used data tape around the world. The Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape holds a positive reputation in storing the data safely. The QIC tape has a great capacity of storing data. The QIC DC6250 tapes have a storage capacity between fifty megabytes to two hundred and fifty megabytes. The QIC DC6525 tape can store data up to five hundred and twenty five megabytes. The Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) DC9120 tape has a storage capacity of one point two gigabytes. The storage capacity of QIC DC9135 is one point three five gigabytes and the length of its tape is seven hundred and sixty feet. The Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) DC9200 tape has got an increased data storing capacity of two gigabytes and its length is nine hundred and fifty feet. The Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) DC9250 tape can store data up to two point five gigabytes and its length is twelve hundred feet. Tape4backup.com provides the premium quality of the Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape.

In the Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape the data is stored in tracks. There are two methods which are specifically used by the QIC tape for encoding the data; these are RLL method and MFM. These methods are also used by the hard drives to encode the data. The Erase head is used by the QIC tape which has the ability to erase the complete width the tape in only one pass. QIC tape also contains a longitudinal read and write head which is also found in the cassette recorders. By this the QIC tape is able to verify the data while it is being written on it. The Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape has proved to be one of the best among all other data tape cartridges.
