A wet carpet is anyway difficult to dry and clean. If the wet carpet is glued to your flooring, it makes it much more difficult to dry and clean it.

It is advisable to hire a professional to restore your glued wet carpet since there are quite a few factors which need to be considered while extracting water.

A professional will examine your glued wet carpet and make a decision based on a few factors.

What is the extent of the water damage? What kind of water has led to the damage? Is it clean water? Is it sewage water?

Can the carpet be removed and re-installed?

Does the padding of the carpet need to be changed?

Is there any mold growth?

Are there any electrical cords nearby?

Are there any working drains in the room?

Is there any furniture on the wet carpet?

Are there any stains on the wet carpet?

What method will be the best for drying out the wet carpet?

What methods should be used to clean the carpet?

How should the carpet be disinfected?

And finally is it a better idea to restore the glued carpet? Or is replacing the carpet much less expensive?

A professional will make an assessment based on all these factors and suggest the best solutions for restoring your glued wet carpet.

However, there are a few things you can do to help in the restoration process.

1. Remove any furniture which is kept on the carpet. Furniture on a wet carpet will lead to spots and stains. Furthermore, wooden furniture will get damaged if left on a wet carpet.

2. Avoid walking on the wet carpet. This will not only lead to spots on your carpet but also spread the water damage to the rest of the house.

3. Circulate the air as much as possible. Switch on the fans in the room for improving the circulation of air.

4. Open all doors and windows to allow fresh air to come in. If sunlight can come in through any of the openings to the room, it will help a lot in the drying process.

5. Once the glued wet carpet has been dried and cleaned by a professional, avoid walking on it for at least 4 to 6 hours or until it is dry.

6. If the professional has placed any plastic or aluminum pieces under your heavy furniture, do not remove it unless the carpet is completely dry. This might take up to 24 to 48 hours.

7. Once the carpet is completely dry, vacuum it thoroughly to remove any traces of dirt, debris or chemicals left on the carpet.

Hiring a professional does not mean that your work is done. If you take the above steps, it will help in further restoration of your glued wet carpet. Remember it is your hard earned money that is being spent on paying the professional and restoring the glued carpet.
