For lovers across distance, how does it feel? How do they cope? Long distance love affairs are truly one one of the most difficult affairs to handle. Most people see such relationships as hopeless. Hopeless romantics should be aware of what long distance romance may bring. Although not all lovers that are apart have been dismayed with long distance affair.



Even though distance is a hindrance, there are also ways on how to maintain a long distance relationship. There are people, miles apart from each other that have been bound together by time. These is a sign that they are meant for each other for they are brought by fate and destined to be together. There is a magic in love. No matter how far, no matter how long, if fate brings you both together then, go with the flow.

There are three factors that form the basic of a lasting relationships. These basic factors are familiarity, proximity and frequency of contact. Since these elements are almost impossible to achieve in a long distance relationships.

Familiarity between lovers. Unlike other couples, who had time to get together, there are others who did not have time to enjoy each others company before they parted ways. Even if lovers are familiar with each other, the time they spend away from each other are times of growth, of personal changes, times they never get to share. Bond between to people can only be strengthened if lovers get to spend time together. Lovers should also be emotionally familiar with each other. Everyone will agree that lovers get to know each other more during times of crisis and when problems constantly arise in any relationship. And the problem is there to test the stability of their partnership.

Since long distance lovers do not see each other, the time they spend together are spent ideally: hugging and kissing and catching up chatting. This leaves very little chance for lovers to fully understand their partner's emotional wants. And because they lack familiarity with each other, they are in greater threat of falling out of love. But this does not mean that they will not survive the crisis. They can.

Proximity: Physical closeness. Lovers need to be close to each other. It is necessary to build a long and lasting relationship. Physical closeness doesn't only mean hugging,kissing or any sort. It means physical presence. Lovers need touch, touch of assurance and it simply means care and love. This form of assurance is definitely lost in a long distance romance.

Frequency of contact. Even lovers do need time to get together, this doesn't happen quite often. This need for frequent contact stresses the need for familiarity and proximity. Lovers will never fully develop their familiarity with each other if they do not get enough chance to be together. Unlike the normal love relationships, lovers who stay apart lacks contact. In extreme cases, his may later lead or give the impression that there was no love being shared at all.
