Who doesn't want to be Big Brother? To be the all-seeing, powerful god of all? Well, probably not "domineering god of everything" but being the all-seeing person would be just as potent, don't you believe so? That can be one cause why there are numerous issues when it comes to utilizing hidden spy cameras, assault of privacy being one of these. Power is actually something that anyone hates and, ironically, everybody likes. Spy cameras, while they're an advantage to a particular person, may be very hurtful to another. They could be a significant tool or something that would bring you down.



There is this one case involving a teacher who used a hidden camera cloaked as a button to film naughty students in school. The students and their families have filed complaints against the said teacher for "misusing her authority" as well as taping the students without their consent. Yes, it was unlawful for the teacher to do it, yet if we look at it the other manner, we may notice that what the teacher was actually doing was revealing these behavioral concerns to the public so that they may be addressed accordingly. I am relatively sure that the Virginia Tech tragedy is still recent on all people's minds. Such behavioral inclinations could have been identified beforehand and consequently stopped the tragedy from happening. If a hidden spy camera is what it takes to prevent such tragic episodes, then I would not mind teachers recording their students at school at all.

However, there are also some who abuse the benefits of hidden video cameras. I would assume all are aware of concerns of outrageous actions caught on tape that are being utilized to blackmail an individual. Or those that obviously invades other individual's privacy as in putting hidden cameras in locations wherein surveillance is not vital, i.e. the restroom or personal quarters for reasons of personal satisfaction or malicious intent. Stalking utilizing spy video cameras is also another mode of abuse of this technology.

Yet there is one thing that shocks me. Some homeowners use nanny cameras to regulate their baby-sitters as well as house maids while they're away. And these nannies aren't conscious of the existence of the spy camera until they get caught doing some monkey business and confronted about it. Yet nobody seems to be protesting. If they get caught abusing a child or doing something wrong, the matter of the nanny's claim to privacy is not raised. It is because the owners have the power to do whatever they want to secure the family and the house helper did something wrong.

Thus, when is the use of covert surveillance cameras right and when is it not? Seemingly, the thin red demarcation dividing them is a lot thinner than we thought. When the person making use of the surveillance camera is in power, its use is justified. But if selecting to use covert spy cameras will make us more secured, then I am for it. Furthermore, why would I be concerned about it when I am not doing anything that is against the law or is morally wrong? However, as long as they maintain well behind the line, it would not be an issue.
