If you are in the market for a video detection device you first need to know about the following basics: closed circuit, motion detection, night vision, and remote monitoring.

The phrase ?closed circuit? simply means that the images captured by the video camera are not broadcasted into the airwaves, but travel to a set destination (usually a monitor or recording device) instead.

A device with motion detection remains off until it is triggered by movement. This is very useful in terms of surveillance cameras. Not only does this save power, recording materials, and general wear on the device from excessive use, it also provides convenience. Imagine leaving a camera on for a weekend and having a security breech. With a camera that is constantly running you would have over sixty hours o video to search through before finding the desired event. A video motion detection device, on the other hand, would have only a few innocuous events that could be quickly scanned over before finding the crime.

We always seem to be particularly aghast when a crime takes place ?in broad daylight.? This is because such crimes are rare, and thus appear particularly bold. Since most crimes take place at night, it is imperative that your security camera be equipped with night vision. This is readily available, effective technology. Would you really like to be foiled by a criminal who simply turned the lights out?

Finally, remote video monitoring allows you to observe your property through your security camera, even when you are miles away. This technology uses the common computer modem to dial into your security system and relay the images from the camera to your computer monitor. Should your alarm be triggered you will able to verify if it has been falsely set off, or if a crime is actually taking place.
