Vera Wang is actually part of the crowd of designers from the 1990's who, because they couldn't find what they wanted when they were going to be married, decided to make something for themselves, and generated buzz from that point on. As one of the early designers who realized that there was a market for designer wedding gowns, she started creating styles that she could put on display a couple of times a year, with prices ranging anywhere from $2,500 to $50,000 or more. She created the first boutique for wedding gowns, yet also has contractual arrangements with top of the top department stores in the country.



Celebrities seem to love Vera Wang's wedding style. Mariah Carey was one of her earliest celebrity clients, wearing a dress that came to around $25,000. Jennifer Lopez also decided to choose Vera Wang as her designed for her wedding to Mark Anthony in 2004.

Wang's favorite style features an off-the-shoulder look that's tailored to conform to the bride's shape, but she's not locked into only that style, as she's been known to create dresses that remind some people of Scarlet O'Hara style apparel. She also loves to create wedding dresses with a lot of color whenever she can, but mainly enhances traditional white gowns with colorful swatches.

Wang is very passionate about dresses, saying in a magazine interview: ?I wanted to define the vocabulary of a wedding both visually and intellectually. The book is about more than weddings or wedding dresses. It's a metaphor for woman's lives, their creativity.?
