Jokes have become such an integral part of our lives, yet no one really knows how the term ?joke? came into existence, or who cracked the first ever joke. No matter what part of the world you are from; there is always one person in the group that has an interesting anecdote or joke to offer. What is equally true is that jokes have a way of relaxing the entire group.

The first people to use jokes professionally were probably court jesters from the middle ages. Today stand up comedians have taken up the mantle of the jesters of yesteryears, and the one thing that has not changed is that people still enjoy a good joke. What makes jokes such a wonderful thing is that it all boils down to a sense of humour; what one person might find offensive, another can find funny. Take for example, some of the popular yo mamma jokes (yo mama jokes are jokes like, your mother's so fat, when she goes to a restaurant she doesn't get a menu, she gets an estimate). A person with a sense of humour would take the joke above with a pinch of salt, while others might find the jokes out right offensive.

As a means of communication jokes are one of the oldest ways of getting along with people and lightening up an otherwise dull occasion. To put it in context, almost all major stand-up comedians today have started their career from famous bars and restaurants. People love to be entertained while they are having a drink or at social gatherings. No one really cares if the comedian has actually come up with all the jokes himself. More often than not it's not what the comedian says; it's how he says it that makes a difference.

It does not take exceptional flair or talent to tell jokes; all it takes is knowing when to crack a joke. If you want to read a few jokes, or need some good conversation starters then you can visit websites like www.jokes-db.com that offer jokes on a variety of topics. As far as jokes go it pays to understand the mood of people you are sharing a joke with, sometimes even the best jokes go astray because the timing is wrong or not everyone in the room enjoyed it. For example, if you want to crack a joke about blonde's make sure that you joke about blondes when there are no blondes around, unless of course you are pretty confident that the blondes present will take the joke in its true spirit.

Another elementary mistake is dragging a joke on for ever, no one really wants to listen to a long drawn anecdote, so make sure the jokes you choose are short and sweet. Longer jokes are ideal for one to one conversations or when you are with close friends who better understand your sense of humour. Remember not everyone will find your jokes funny, so be prepared for the ?smiles only? scenario as well.
