Wood flooring has long been though to be the most classic, warm and elegant type of floor available. It complements any dcor and is one of the most popular kinds of flooring in the world. The opinion of wood flooring may be high, but, as any owner can tell you, caring for wood floors can be hard work. Wood floors are an investment, so you have to be careful about choosing the right kind of woods for your floors and to maintain and repair the floors as needed.

Why Go for Wood Floors?

Wood floors are an instant boon to your property values - they are among the most sought after features buyers are looking for in a home. Further, there are so many different styles and colors of wood available, this kind of floor can work with any design taste.

Traditional to modern and everything in between, wood floors work with any dcor. Adding a fur accent rug, Persian rug, or any other kind of throw rug can add a little bit of color and flair to your flooring and help transform the look of your room. In addition to adding sophistication and charm, wood flooring also brings with it a cozy, warm feeling, which is great for a chilly winter day.

Buying Wood Flooring

When you in the market for wood flooring, it is important to consider the following points. The first is your budget. Wood floors can be extremely expensive, but if you cut corners and go for the bargain floor, you may end up with a poor quality product that cannot stand up to heavy use. Make an effort to match your budget with a quality product that is ideal for the room in which the floor will be laid - it is preferable to hold off on flooring while you save some cash instead of skimping on quality.

Likewise, make sure you understand what kinds of wood are ideal for what kinds of rooms. Rooms that get light use can get by with a different kind of wood than rooms that get heavy use.

Caring for your Wood Floors

The number one mistake people make with their wood flooring is not caring for it properly. You can't put any old cleaner on the floor; the sealant and/or the wood itself could be damaged. Use a dedicated wood floor cleaner that was designed for the exact kind of wood of your floor. Also, don't attempt to clean the floor with wood furniture polish - you'll be slipping and sliding everywhere.

Scratches in wood floors are difficult and expensive to fix, so avoid getting them in the first place. Never drag furniture across a wood floor. Instead, use pads to pull the furniture. Also, consider taking off high heeled shows when walking on the floor to avoid putting dings in the wood.
