Many men find that being a gentleman is easy more so than what others do. A man that knows a woman's needs and what his own needs are is going to go far in the dating world. The ability to compromise and have a great attitude will work more so than someone who is set in their ways and does not see a need for change. Manners, listening, understanding and courteous behavior is something all men need to have when dating. Little snide remarks will not go over very well when you start dating someone new. When a woman has a chance to date a man that shows the characteristics of a gentleman, she feels relaxed and is more apt to accept a second or third date from a gentleman than from someone who is a little less in that department.



A man who has some manners will be appreciated more than a man that has some flaws. Today, men are raised differently than what men were raised like before. Manners do not stand out in everyone. If you plan to date, you do need to understand some of the finer points to dating and being a gentleman. When you are out for the day or night, opening the car door or any doors for a woman is proper. Allowing her to enter first followed by you is appropriate. A woman is always seated before a man and the man can pull out the chair for a woman so she can be seated, then sit down himself. Compliments are in order when dating. If a man has nothing to say to compliment the woman, a simple smile will do.

The woman is first in everything with a few exceptions. If walking into a darken area, the man is going to go first. The woman then follows. This is not only showing manners, but also concern for safety. The gentleman is someone who can listen and make the appropriate comments when needed. You may need to be sensitive, supportive and encouraging without taking offense to the situation.

A gentleman is not self serving or self centered. He is not going to be the center of attention. The woman is center of his attention and should be made to feel this way. If a man thinks only of himself, dating is going to be slim. Many women want a man who has manners, but is fun and exciting without being overly loud and obnoxious. Keep your comments clean and if you have a humorous side, you may need to tone it down a bit until further along in the early stages of dating.

A woman takes her time to form an opinion of you when dating. It may take some time and a man needs to act like a gentleman at all times. After she gets to know a man, a woman will become more at ease and then a man can start showing other qualities that may interest the woman. Some things that a man thinks are funny may not be funny to the woman. It is all about timing as well as how much you have gotten to know the person. Everyone is entitled to be himself or herself, but in the beginning, you need to refrain from loud outbursts when something is funny or even angering. That can come later after she knows you better.
