Glass surfaces form a positive charge attracting small particles forming a weak bond on the surface. It is common for dirt and dust to stick on the glass although to the eye it is perfectly smooth. So why is it that the dust just doesn't slide off of glass? Well it is due to the electrostatic charge of glass. It acts like a magnet attracting particles.

It is possible to neutralize glass and reduce the electrostatic charge. Certain products are available that coat glass as well as smoothen the microscopic crevices on the surface. I came across a glass cleaner called Repellent Wash from a company called Tekon and it works. Sprayed it on generously, and then wiped the excess off. I cleaned it on both sides. At first it looked wet, but as the solution dried the glass looked crystal clear, so clear in fact that there was no reflection. Again, it looked as if the glass was gone, it was absolutely clear.

Now, I use Repellent Wash on all my glass surfaces, I only treat it once a month or so, and it keeps all my glass windows looking as if they were just purchased yesterday. Tekon Repellent Wash is an amazing product for glass surfaces and I am glad I came across it.

As a word of caution, homemade glass cleaners or cleaners that contain ammonia can strip the protective coatings off of rubber moldings and metallic surfaces making them exposed to the elements.
