Driving in New York at any time of the day can be a real pain, especially during rush hour. and for this reason NYC courier and messenger companies turn to their bike messengers to help beat the jams.

Some NYC bike messengers do their courier work as a job on the side, where as others are dedicated to their industry and see it as a career.

The weather means nothing to the bike messenger in New York. Be it severe heat or torrential rain the bike messenger will be out delivering items on their two wheels around the city.

There are many risks of being a push bike courier in a major city such as New York. The volume of traffic in the big city poses a massive risk in itself, and for this reason most bike messenger couriers will know their city like the back of their hand, even down to the way that lights work and junctions and intersections. They will also know all the shortcuts down the back streets to beat the traffic conflicts!

The next challenge to the courier, following the traffic, is the terrain. Not all cities are flat so some bike messengers have to navigate the hilly terrains in front of them.

Naturally, bike messengers need to be extremely fit. During a day they can cover a fair amount of mileage. Sometimes, however, in the city this can be unpleasant with the fumes from the vehicles.

For the New York courier companies themselves the push bikes are a cost effective form of transport as they provide lost cost maintenance and they don't need expensive fuel!

Bike Messengers in NYC have been around nearly as long as the push bike itself. Back in the day of the early bikes they were a quick and cost effective way of getting letters from one location to another. To this day nothing has changed, and they still play an important part in the world of couriers.

In summary, that is why Bike Messengers are so important to NYC Messenger companies. They literally are unsung heroes, braving the traffic and the elements to make sure that you get your parcels delivered on time.
