Bread 5 Minutes A Day

    View:
Sometimes our lives get busy and it's easy to ignore the fact that our partner needs to feel as wanted, valued and loved as we do. Family responsibilities increase, deadlines loom, household chores seem never-ending, and there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to do everything else that needs to be done, never mind make time for your partner.

What you need to remember however is that it doesn't have to take a great deal of your time to touch base and make sure that your partner knows that you love them - even though you're doing all of this other stuff - and that you're thinking of them and care about how their day is.

In just 5 minutes every day you can create a feeling of love and worth for your partner so that they don't start to feel resentful of the other things in your life, and begin to wonder if you'd miss them if they were gone!

Try a few of the following and see if it makes a difference in your life:

1. Spend a few moments before you both get up in a morning to talk about your hopes for the day. Ask your partner about theirs. It doesn't take long to ask "What are you planning for today?" or to hear their response.

2. Before you go to bed, ask your partner how the day went, and if they'd achieved what they hoped - again this doesn't take long but the trick isn't in the time it takes, but rather in your ability to have listened in the morning so that you remember what it was they'd planned for the day and can ask a specific question that shows your partner that you were listening.

3. At some point during the day, phone them, send an email, or SMS that simply says something like 'Thinking about you!" This will take seconds and will show your partner you care enough about them to stop what you're doing and think about doing something for them.

4. Write a little love note and pop it into their jacket pocket or wallet so that they find it next time they're in there. It might not be every day they'll find it, but it'll be a surprise when they do.

5. Run your partner a bath. While it's running, you can get on and do other things, but keep an eye on the water so that you can let your partner know it's ready when it's finished filling. You could even offer to wash their back once they're in!

6. Pick up a bunch of flowers, or a magazine you'll think they'll like when you're at the grocery store - you're there anyway so it's no extra time but the thought will be appreciated.

There are many little things you can do that take up very little time but that show your partner that despite your busy lifestyle, you can always find time for them. Use the suggestions above as a starting block for what will fit into your relationship best.
Bread 5 Minutes A Day
Keeping your home office organized when you work from home can be a real challenge. Because not only does your work end up in your home office but pieces of your home life often end up in there too. So how can you keep it under control? Spend just 15 minutes at the end of every day keeping your home office organized.

Spend 5 minutes getting the "stuff" off of your desk

If your desk at home is anything like mine, things tend to just build up there. I clean it off daily but paper and other things end up on it by the end of the day. Organizing a home office and keeping it organized means that you need to keep your desk area clear. Try to make sure that the only things on your desk are things that you need frequent access to and are projects that you are currently working on. Everything else needs to go.

At the end of the day, take everything off of your desk. Only put back those things that you need for the projects that you are working on tomorrow. For me, this helps clear my brain and get me clear on what I need to do the next day. It is a good way to put your work day to bed.

Spend 5 minutes getting rid of the things that do not belong in your home office

Organizing your home office at the end of the day also means getting stuff out of your home office that does not belong there. When you work from home, there are often things that end up in your home office that would never end up in an office at a work building. Some of the crazy collections that have ended up in my home office at the end of the day: laundry, dolls and DVDs. It is not always easy to separate work space from home space but make sure that this happens at the end of your day. Anything that ended up in your home office that does not belong there needs to go to it's proper home at the end of the day.

Spend 5 minutes creating an "action plan" for the next day

This is more of a time management tip than a home office organization tip but it is a good tip nevertheless. If you take time at the end of your day to get your head clear about your game plan for tomorrow, that is definitely a wise investment of your time. I know that I get far more done in a day when I do this. It helps get your priorities straight for the next day and gives you a game plan to follow. I try not to spend more than 5 minutes at the end of the day doing this because otherwise I end up with a list a mile long of things I need to get done. This action plan for the next day needs to be a realistic one. When time permits, it is also a good idea to put that list in priority order.
