Diabetes is a disorder characterized by abnormally high blood glucose levels. People with diabetes(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Diabetes.html) cannot properly process glucose, a sugar the body uses for energy. As a result, with Diabetes, glucose tends to move inefficiently from the bloodstream to the tissues of the body where it is needed. Therefore, even while blood glucose levels are elevated, the rest of the body can be starved for glucose. Chromium helps to regulate the blood sugar level and indirectly affects the level of fats in the blood. Alpha-Lipoic Acid may relieve symptoms of nerve damage in people with diabetes and may improve the glucose-lowering action of insulin.

People with Diabetes(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Diabetes.html) may have complications with wound healing, may have higher risk of infections, and may suffer damage to the kidneys, nerves, and heart. Certain enzymes needed to repair wounds contain zinc, an essential mineral to repair wounds, maintain fertility, help cells reproduce, preserve vision, boost immunity, and protect against free radicals, among other functions. Vitamins C and E, and phytonutrients in Bilberry, all antioxidants, prevent damage to the nerves, eyes, and heart.

Chromium is an element which has functions of regulating blood sugar levels and controlling levels of fat in the blood. For relieving symptoms of nerve damage and improving the glucose-lowering action of insulin, A-Lipoic Acid may be useful. Preventing diabetic nerve damage as well as production of enzymes that convert glucose to energy are actions which can be assisted with the Vitamin B Complex. Flaxseed has two main uses - one is in lowering cholesterol, thereby protecting against heart disease. Another is its essential fatty acids which protect against nerve damage and keep blood supply of arteries consistent. Vitamins C and E, and phytonutrients in Bilberry, all antioxidants, prevent damage to the nerves, eyes, and heart. Insulin production or release can be increased by Gymnema. Insulin sensitivity can be improved and cholesterol levels can be lowered with Taurine. Zinc is an essential mineral that is a component of enzymes needed to repair wounds, maintain fertility in adults, help cells reproduce, preserve vision, boost immunity, and protect against free radicals, among other functions. Copper is needed with long-term use of zinc, because zinc inhibits copper absorption.
