There are many appliances around your home that spend power when they are not being used, finding out which ones are causing your bill to spike and taking care of them is one of the most effective ways to save money. Water heaters are known to be one of those appliances that can draw the power when they are not in use, this represents a huge power leak simply because heaters that stores water on a tank are working even if no one has the need for hot water.

Water heaters which use a tank in order to store this fluid and keep it hot can be a big liability because of the reasons stated above, in order to solve this problem many homeowners have opted to use electric Tankless water heaters.

How do electric Tankless water heaters work?

These are basically units that sit between the cold water line and the appliance that will use hot water, when the hot water knob is opened the device will heat the fluid coming through this line with the use a unit that works on electricity.

Before you decide to use this type of appliance there are some requirements you need to take in consideration such as the capacity of the heater according to your water demand, the voltage and amperage of the unit and last but not least the existence of a circuit breaker that will back up and contain the unit in case of problems caused by power surges.

You can use several units around your house which can have different capacities according to the demand of the appliances they will be attached to, this way a heater with a bigger capacity can be assigned to all the appliances in the bathroom and smaller units can be used in other parts of your house. The bathtub is estimated to use between two to 4 gallons of water per minute so you can place a bigger unit exclusively for the bathtub and use a smaller one on a simple lavatory.

Energy efficiency

Traditional heaters that store water in a tank constantly draw electricity to keep the liquid within tank hot, this means the unit is working even if no one has created a demand for hot water; a an electric Tankless water heater will not use electricity unless someone creates a demand for hot water, this simple fact can dramatically reduce energy costs for instance, a traditional heater which stores water in a tank will waste 24 to 34% more energy when compared to an electric unit that does not use a tank.

Home owners who like the idea of reducing their energy bill 24 to 34% will definitely be drawn to this type of heating system.
