The bra should fit perfectly and should be easy to use. A correctly fitted nursing bra gives a mother comfort and support, so it is a good idea to get fitted by a professional. The best time to purchase a nursing bra is during mid to late pregnancy so that your rib and bust size will be close to the same size as they will be following delivery of your baby.

Bras that are too tight may block the flow of milk and put you at risk for plugged ducts or infection that can eventually lead to mastitis. There is no one best kind of nursing bra, as every woman's body is different and has different comfort preferences.

If possible, it is best to avoid wearing under wire nursing bras, especially in the early postpartum weeks. However, some women, especially those with plus size cups, opt for an under wire nursing bra as they feel they get more support and avoid backaches. If you do choose under wire bras, then it is vital that it fits perfectly.

For mothers who want a quick and comfortable nursing experience, an option is to choose nursing bras that have flaps. Bras with flaps allow for just the breast-area material to be removed instead of the entire bra during feeding time. This is very useful, because it makes for discreet, convenient breastfeeding for mothers who nurse in public. Choose the one that is easiest for you to fasten and unfasten with one hand.

But there are also bras that have no flaps and under wire, which some mothers prefer strictly based on comfort. However, these kinds of nursing bras are not especially comfortable for women who have larger breasts, as they find it does not give them as much support as those nursing bras with an under wire.

Make sure that you have a good number of nursing bras so that you can wash them regularly; this will help protect you and your baby from the possibility of infection. Try to purchase a nursing bra where the cup is lined with cotton, although many synthetic materials nowadays do let your skin breath. Also make sure your bra has straps that keep the breasts elevated without cutting into your shoulder.

Don't be fooled into thinking that nursing bras have to be unflattering. There are various styles and colors to choose from, and they are every bit as sexy as the bras you wore before you were pregnant. There is no such thing as the best nursing bra. Buy the one that gives you the best support, is easy for you to use and gives you the greatest confidence. The Internet is a great place to find the maternity clothing that is right for you.
