The illegal use of fake Ids is nothing new. Most people have heard stories of teenagers using fake IDs in order to help them obtain alcohol or cigarettes despite being too young to legally do so. If a consumer choose to use the shovel to harm someone to break a window and rob someone, the manufacturer is not liable for these actions. The same is true with fake IDs - if the consumer chooses to use the ID in an illegal fashion, the manufacturer of the card is not liable.

Illegal Uses

IDs are sold by manufacturers for novelty purposes. In addition, it is perfectly legal to possess a fake ID. A fake card becomes illegal when it is used for purposes such as misrepresenting a person's age or status. Using a fake ID in order to purchase alcohol or cigarettes, for example, is illegal. Similarly, utilizing a fake ID in order to enter restricted premises is illegal and punishable under the law.

It is most likely that this type of behavior is the prelude to more illegal actions. Quite often these actions are taken to use the card for tobacco or alcohol purchase. While these particular crimes may seem harmless and the law only holds them as misdemeanors, there are crimes that would initiate harsher consequences.

Using a fake driver's license is a far more serious crime. In some states it's considered to be a felony. This can result in more intense fines and/or jail terms as decided by law. You may also take into consideration that such a crime would probably cause you to lose your license. You should also take note that strict penalties do not only apply to those who carry fake ids, they also apply to those who borrow the id of a friend, relative, etc.

Getting a fake id is truly an ethical decision. The choices you make will also have an effect on others and that's something you really need to take into consideration before appropriating an id for unethical use. Basically whether you get a fake id, or how you choose to use it should be held in regard to common courtesy to others. Penalties can be extreme for store owners or businesses who sell alcohol and a tobacco product to under age individuals and it isn't always sympathetic to those who approach the matter with the fact that they were fooled by fake identification. In short, outside of the consequences you impose on yourself, you can get others fined, jailed, fired, or put out of business. This isn't exactly a victimless crime.
