They way that we watch our televisions has changed so much since it first arrived in American households several decades ago and as each technological advancement was introduced, the quality and quantity of the programming that was available increased dramatically. Black and white TV must have been quite impressive when it made its debut, considering people used to spend their evenings sitting around their radio in the evenings listening to the programming that came out of it as they sat there looking at it.

With black and white TV people could actually see a picture, even though it was grainy and many times out of focus. Color TVs eventually arrived on the scene and people quickly adapted to this new format of TV entertainment and they never looked back, you would now have to scour antique shops to find a black and white TV if you wanted to see one. Technology really didn't change much in the TV for some time other than its size and shape and they way that they looked.

Then after standard color TV programming went through a long period of decline, cable TV was introduced to the American public and it brought with it commercial free twenty-four hour a day programming. Cable TV service providers really weren't interested in bringing up the quantity or quality level of their programming though, because why should they. They had a captive clientele and no competition other than each other and that wasn't much.
