Ovum/Ovule -

This is the female tree that generates ovules in multiples on stalks. Ginkgo Biloba seeds are like spouted (classified as gymnosperm). There is a sliver layer on Ginkgo Biloba seed. The odor of a Ginkgo Biloba seed is quite unbearable and resembles to that of rancid butter fallen on the ground, the seed is a fleshy seed-coat.

Every ovule is made up of an egg cell that initially will be of green color but as it grows the color will begin to appear greenish-yellow and finally settles to orange & brown. It could be twenty five to thrity years before the ovules appear. As they are more reliable in sunny position therefore they spring to life during spring.

Sperms:

Cones are the shape that sperms form. All pollen are a similar outcome to catkin, catkins holds the sperms of a male tree which also takes 20 to 35 years to grow on spring. Sperms are large in size growing to nearly 250 to 300 mm.

There exists a multi-layered complicated structure that forms a sperm, it is formed of one on the other and one after the other of basal bodies which is a simple base for many thousand flagella which in fact has a cilia-like movement. The flagella/cilia gear stretches the sperm body ahead.

Pollination:

Wind makes pollination happen. Ginkgo Biloba fertilization takes place on its tree. What is of utmost importance is that since there exists female and male trees for successful fertilization both the tree's need to be in close vicinity of each other. Pollination happening via the means of birds and insects is very rare and therefore discarded.

At the time when fertilization takes place (it takes place on the tree itself) embryo falls from the tree and then the blowing wind takes it away to a new place and the embryo gets planted there. Because of the natural process of getting attached to new place, stabilizing and start growing it can be 20 to 30 years until a male & female plants turns mature enough to begin producing gametophytes.

It is highly unlikely that tree will die because of natural death once its roots have found strength in the soil. It is easy to maintain once it starts growing. It is almost a stubborn plant that will never be affected by extreme conditions.

With help from strong roots & strong stem even blusterous conditions cannot shake it. Well simply if an atom bomb explosion like one in Hiroshima cannot dwindle it nothing can.!! It has also been found to be immune to plant infections and has no damaging effects from insects, this because the stem is made up of significant components.

Countries like Japan, China, Korea, USA and Germany widely grow Ginkgo Biloba. While several European nations have indulged in planting more and more Ginkgo Biloba trees and are also doing R&D and studies on more ways of using these tree to the benefit of man kind.
