One of the most important components of SEO today is link building. The search engines basically see every link to your site as a vote for it. The more votes you have the more relevant you are and so the higher you rank.

There are various ways to get links however it is not as simple as just numbers, it is also a matter of quality. If you have a website I am sure you have received an email from someone asking you to link to them and they will link to you. This is not a good thing to do as search engines generally disregard link exchanges when they count your votes. As a result it is important to get one-way links to your site that are genuine votes for your site. The best way to do this is through your content.

In order to get links to your site you will need to have engaging content that other website owners will feel benefits their users. A great way to do this is to add a blog to your website. If you then keep this up to date and ensure it is submitted to relevant blog directories you will gather links. This also has added advantages that you will increase the pages on your website which the search engines love.

Also consider adding an article section so that you can write more about general information about your industry. You will then be able to submit these articles to article directories in order to gather more one-way links for your site.

Becoming an expert in your field is really useful and you can do this by contributing to other peoples blogs. If you genuinely get involved you will get more and more links to your site, not only through your posts but also as others see you as an expert. They will think that what you have to offer is obviously great.

Another thing to remember about your link building is the anchor text. This is the test in the link to your site. It is important to get your keywords in your links as this will show the search engines what your site is about.

As well as this you need to have quality links to your site, but how do you find them? One way to do this is to examine the sites that already rank at the top of the search engines. You can do this by going to yahoo.com. If you search for link:www.domainname.com you will see all the links that Yahoo have to that site.

Knowing what sites your competitors have that link to them is a good place to start as you may be able to adopt some of their methods in order to build the links to your website.

Remember this will not be a quick fix and you will not get loads of links to your site immediately. However with a consistent campaign over time your links will build and your ranking will rise.
