How To Use Essential Oil

    View:
Orange essential oil is popular and highly praised by beginners as well as season pros. It is considered to be one of the best essential oils to experiment with when learning about essential oils because of its many uses as well as its flexibility. Orange essential oil mixes very well with many essential oils and therefore is considered fool proof.

Orange essential oil is collected by a cold press method from the peel of the orange and is relatively inexpensive due to the fruits abundance. Native to China and India the orange is now grown in the Americas, Israel and the Mediterranean.

The versatility of orange essential oil is undeniable and makes it the perfect choice to add to your collection. The uses and applications are endless and include:

1. Clear up your complexion. Places a couple of drops of orange essential oil on a wet cotton ball to treat acne and blemishes. This is also effective to remove excess oil from your skin.

2. Colds, coughs and flu can be combated two ways using orange essential oil. Add a few drops of the essence to carrier oil and rub on your chest or add two or three drops to a steam inhalation.

3. If you suffer from eczema or psoriasis place a couple of drops into carrier oil and massage into affected area to reduce the inflammation.

4. Alleviate joint and muscle pain by using a massage mixture, use in a hot compress or add eight or nine drops to your bath water.

5. To aid in digestion or to battle constipation make a massage oil by mixing two or three drops of orange essential oil to one ounce of carrier oil and rub into lower back area.

6. If you are experiencing water retention again mix up massage oil and rub into lower abdomen, back, feet or hands.

7. If you need a pick me up because you are feeling depressed, fatigued, stressed or nervous use a few drops in a diffuser, steam inhalation or eight or nine drops in your bath water.

8. Add two or three drops of essence to one once of carrier oil and rub it into your cellulite and watch it disappear.

9. If you just enjoy the smell of orange essential oil and want to experience its up lifting effects through out the day make a perfume by using a 50/50 ratio of carrier oil or alcohol and the essence.

10. To leave a clean lingering scent in your home put a couple of drops in your rinse water when cleaning.

One of the reasons orange essential oil is so wide used is the fact that it can easily be mixed with other essences resulting in a wide range of fragrances for instance mixing with lavender produces a pleasant floral scent, mixing with ginger gives a spicier scent, and mixing with sandalwood gives you a nice masculine scent. Another tip is mix the orange with pine needle oil to give a seasonal boost during the winter.

Although orange essential oil has many fantastic uses the pleasant sweet smell is definitely an effective mood elevator which can be used to brighten any day. Use it to banish the stress and to trigger your creativity. Give it a try and see how it affects and shifts your over all out look from day to day.
How To Use Essential Oil
Aromatherapy is used for a wide variety of problems, ranging from anxiety and insomnia to acne, cellulite (fatty deposits beneath the skin), and aging skin.

The Benefits of Aromatherapy

Each essential oil has its own characteristic aroma and profile of therapeutic properties. Some oils are soothing and relaxing, others are stimulating and invigorating. Certain fragrances have an effect on a user's mental state: jasmine and neroli may lift depression, marjoram soothes anxiety, and peppermint can enhance mental concentration. But an even greater number of essential oils are physically therapeutic and possess antibacterial, antiseptic, or anti-inflammatory properties. These can be highly effective in relieving the symptoms of such common infections as colds and influenza.

How to Use Essential Oils

There are several ways to use essential oils to reap the full benefits of aromatherapy. Choose those oils with the properties that are most suited to the effect desired, and use them either singly or in combinations of no more than two or three at a time.

On the skin essential oils are highly concentrated: always mix an essential oil with, carrier oil before applying it to the skin. Add one to three drops of essential oil to a teaspoonful of a vegetable oil such as almond, soybean grapeseed, avocado, or whea germ oil. Store larger quantities of unused oil in a bottle made of tinted glass and keel in a cool place. Apply the mixture directly onto the skin, rubbing it in gently.

Alternatively, use the aromatherapy oil in place of an ordinary massage oil.

To benefit directly from the aroma of an essential oil, add, few drops to a bowl of steaming hot water and position the bowl near enough for you to be able to inhale the vapor. Inexpensive vaporizers are also available.

Alternatively, place a few drops of essential oil onto a ball of dampened absorbent cotton and put the ball on a hot radiator. Another option is to put a few drops of essential oil into an atomizer of the type used to spray indoor plants (five drops to 1 cup/250ml of water) and spray around the room. This will freshen up stuffy rooms, creating an atmosphere conducive to study or to relaxation at home, or potentially keeping minor infections at bay in an office.

In the bath add five to ten drops of essential oils as the hot water is running. The benefits come from inhaling their vapors as well as absorbing the oils themselves through the skin.

Special Note Essential oils are obviously highly concentrated: applied directly to the skin they may sting or cause irritation. Before using an essential oil for the first time - especially if there is a personal history of allergic reactivity - a skin test under the supervision of a clinical ecologist or other qualified practitioner is strongly recommended. You should never swallow essential oils except when directed to do so by a practitioner who is skilled in the internal medical use of oils. In some countries, essential oils that are to be taken internally in this way are available only on prescription from a physician. On the other hand, herbal decoctions and infusions (tisanes and teas) are readily and generally available.
