How To Write A Book Synopsis

    View:
  • Step #1 Decide why you are writing the book. Are you writing it to boost business and serve as a marketing piece? Imagine telling a potential client, "let me send you a copy of my book." This strategy works quite well to convince potential clients you are the one to do business with.

Are you writing your book to create a business? Many successful publishers and authors have built tremendous businesses from the creation of a single book. I like to use Chicken Soup for the Soul as an example because they have taken one original book and built an empire of products. You do not have to write creative non-fiction to be successful. There are many successful businesses who blossomed from one "expert" book.

  • Are you writing a book to share your joy and knowledge with others? What gives you great joy? Some people find great joy fly fishing. Others enjoy taking apart their computers and modifying them.

Still others love to create deliciously healthy meals or train bears. Whatever your joy, it can be shared with others in the form of a book.

  • Step #2 Once you know what you want to write about, it is time to make sure there is an audience. It is time for research. Now the truth of the matter is there is an audience for just about every topic under the sun. That being said, you can fine tune your book's topic to appeal to the most people by being specific.

For example, if your passion is fly fishing, there are many aspects of fly fishing. There is fly tying, building custom fly rods, the skills involved with fly fishing, fly fishing vacations and so on. The list could go on for quite a while.

Your job, here in Step #2 is to determine what potential topics are available and which has the most demand. There are many tools you can use to research demand and potential topics including online keyword tools, friends, family, and associates, and online surveys, chat rooms and forums. Once you know exactly what you are writing about, and you know there's an audience, it is time to get down to the business of writing.

For more information about marketing your book and your website read this article entitled " Book Marketing Experts- 3 Tips To Market Your Book As An Expert" at http://www.expertauthorpublishing.com

  • Step #3 Writing your book. Not everyone believes they can write and some people simply do not want to write a book. Do not let either stop you from becoming an author. You can write a book if you want to, and if you do not want to then hire a ghostwriter. Either way, your book will begin with an outline. I know, outlines are dreadful and they bring us back to our high school years but I am not talking about that kind of formal outline. I am talking about an outline that will make writing your book as easy as writing a letter to a friend.

Once your book is written, and this can honestly take less than 30 days to complete, publishing it is the only thing that stands between you and your 'expert' status. Don't let publishing your book be your barrier. Self publishing has grown by leaps and bounds over the past couple of years and there are options for everyone. Becoming the expert in your chosen field or subject is only a few steps away.
How To Write A Book Synopsis
Will you dream a bigger dream with me? Imagine thousands of people buying your book all over the world in the coming year. Furthermore, they love it and write you about how it has helped them. They even email all their friends about your insightful book. Sound far fetched? Believe it; it could happen to you! Keep reading only if you want to write your message in a way that sells the minute you publish it.

To start, every part of your book should be a compelling part of your message. Every part should be written passionately and designed to be a sales tool. Yes, you read right. It should be designed to sell your message. Touch your readers' emotion with passion for your topic and you'll sell more books. In fact, when you write your book to include the passion points below, you'll sell more books than you dreamed.

Passion Point 1 Write Your Book's Central Statement.

Write your book's central thought or main point into a 1-2 sentence thesis. This short thesis proclaims the general mission of your book. If you want your readers to keep reading to the end, write tightly focused copy. Make every sentence and every chapter support your thesis statement. Better yet, if you're writing your book fast, use the question-answer method where the thesis is the main solution your book offers.

Passion Point 2 Direct Your Book to Help One Niche Audience.

I hate to hurt your feelings but not everyone will want to read your book. Even so, I am convinced there's a community of people in your field waiting for you to solve their problem. What problems does your message solve for them? Develop an audience profile (picture) and keep it in front of you as you write. That way you can visualize a real person to solve problems for.

Additionally, knowing your market before you write helps you write focused, compelling chapters. Writing to a specific person will keep your readers reading to the end. Write too general and they may fall asleep and never come back to your book after they wake.

Passion Point 3 Sizzle Your Book Title and Cover.

Your title may well be 90% of the pulling power for your book. Researchers say you have around 4-6 seconds to hook your potential buyer. An excellent title is short. and benefit driven. Don't forget to heat them up with emotion. Use terms your audience can relate to. Use action words and verbs.

Quantify change with ways and time limits. Use one or two word ideas to tell a story. Pledge change. Spark interest. Instead of "How to Write an E-book" an author friend chose the title "Ten Secrets to Write Your E-book Like a Winner." She quantified change, sparked interest and branded her title.

Passion Point 4 Invest In Your Front Cover.

Have you seen the sign: We Buy Ugly Houses? Based on the company's popularity, it works for them. But it doesn't work in the book business. Ugly book covers get overlooked. Well designed book covers sell! Hire a professional book cover designer to help you.

Professionally designed covers costs from $130-1400 or more. The cover of your book helps make the important first impression with readers and even book-sellers. Remember, the attention of your potential customer is captured largely and first by the cover design.

Passion Point 5 Compose Your Book Back Cover Before You Write.

This is ranked the second most important "Passion Point" for your book. Think about it in choosing a book to read for yourself, how many times did the title and front cover hook your interest enough to pick it up? Then usually you turn it over to see if you really want to read it.

On the back cover, you put the most compelling ad copy, benefits, testimonials, and a small blurb (bio) about yourself. If your prospective buyer likes it they will buy instantly. If they need more nformation to make the decision they will preview your introduction and table of contents.

No matter how good your book is, if you don't use the above simple tips in setting it up you may never sell as many books as your message deserves. Start today. Enthusiasm and passion are contagious. Write your book to sell the minute it's published. Dream a bigger dream; fill it with enthusiasm and passion for your topic than sell more books than even you dreamed.
