Coffee mugs have evolved to adapt to the different preferences of coffee drinkers. The usual dainty coffee cups are nice, especially when you have company visiting. As a matter of fact, coffee cups are the preferred serving vessels in what is usually called the polite society. It isn't the coffee mug. The coffee mug can be used in a social setting that requires less formality where you can enjoy your coffee in greater quantities.
A coffee mug can be available in all shapes, styles and materials. Basically, a coffee mug is a cup that is used to hold coffee, teas, steamed milk and hot chocolate.
The most common materials used for the production of coffee mugs are glass, porcelain, plastic and metal, and there is no limit to the number of shapes that can be modeled. Coffee mugs are collectibles, souvenir items, marketing and promotional tools, fun novelties and great gifts. For many coffee drinkers though, a favorite mug is just the thing to get perked for the day while enjoying a lazy morning.
Porcelain mugs
Most people prefer porcelain coffee mugs, because they can retain heat better than plastics and metals while serving better coffee flavor. Porcelain coffee mugs can be as pretty, macho or as whimsical as you'd like, but they can also break very easily. Some porcelain coffee mugs come with matching porcelain covers that help to prevent spills and keep the coffee hot, but they're not available with attached lids.
When you are drinking coffee in the office or near equipment and materials that should not have coffee spilled on them, you may prefer a coffee mug made from other materials.
Coffee travelers
True coffee lovers need to take their brew along for the ride. Drive-thru windows are available at coffee shops on every busy city street corner, and car manufacturers boast about the number of cup holders they provide. This is why travel mugs are so popular. Most are crafted of plastic or metal, with an insulating layer to keep the liquid nice and hot. Lids are ideally spill-proof, with a small hole or spout to drink from. This type of coffee mug is like a smaller vacuum flask, and is perfect for drinking coffee at work or on the road.
While the traveling mug is also great for outdoor activities, another more traditional type of coffee mug can be used as well. These types of mugs are made of tin. Tin mugs, though reminiscent of old campfires and the great outdoors, are gradually becoming an option in place of the more versatile traveling mugs.
Coffee mugs can be plain or fancy, simple or ornate. There are ornamental mugs in all sorts of shapes and sizes that, aside from being a functional, can also be used for decorative purposes or organizational cubbies for pencils and other small items.
There is also the puzzle mug. Puzzle mugs are novelty mugs that require manipulation and intuitiveness to drink from. Normally, there is a hidden method of drinking from these mugs but it is made with fun in mind.
Coffee mugs are great ways to enjoy your coffee, especially if you are a coffee lover. The quantity of coffee they can hold can be as much as 20 ounces.
