What Do Recruiters Look For?

Interviewers look for signs that you have the skills needed for the job, that you have a good work ethic, and that you will be a good fit for the organization. Since you probably submitted a job application or resume prior to being invited to interview, it is likely that the interviewer is fairly certain that you have the skills he or she is looking for. However, expect some questions designed to determine if you really do know how to do the things that are detailed in your application paperwork.

In terms of evaluating your work ethic and fit for the organization, the recruiter will consider a number of factors. In addition to asking questions about your work history, the recruiter will ask questions designed to determine your attitude toward work. Interviewers look for good, positive attitudes in new hires. The interviewer will also look at your approach to the job interview. For example, if you are late arriving to your interview, you are not going to make a positive impression regarding your work ethic.

More than anything, job interviewers are looking for an answer to a pressing problem. The pressing problem is a vacant position, and the answer is to hire the right person to fill that job. Remind yourself before you go to your next job interview that the interviewer will be overjoyed if your interview is the last one he or she has to conduct for this particular job!
