You probably have heard about it all over the papers this past year. The Singapore governments aim in increasing the number of marriages by helping out matchmaking agencies. They do that by giving Matchmaking agencies lots and lots of money to setup their businesses and tons of free publicity in the newspapers to promote these services.
These agencies seem a dime a dozen these days; from Lunch Actually to WhoWorksAroundYou, what these agencies do is for a fee of around a thousand bucks or more they set you up on dates with similar profiles of that of the opposite sex.
I have nothing against these agencies, heck, they are doing a service that Singapore really needs to counter the declining birth rate and marriage rate down here.
However, what the government and these agencies are doing is focusing on the wrong thing from the start. They are playing the numbers game and playing it wrongly.
I compare what they are doing to making a man sit on a boat in the middle of a river full of fishes HOPING that one fish will just jump into the boat just by virtue of the number of fishes in the river. Good strategy?
Heck NoYou should be teaching the man how to fish instead!
In the first scenario the man has a low hope of getting any fish in the first place and even the tiniest fish that jumps into his boat he would take it.
Second scenario.
An experienced Fisher in the same river equipped with a variety of bait, a good fishing rod and a keen eye developed through previous experiences of fishing trips on where the best fish are.
This man can probably get any fish in the pond he wants. He has the skillset and he has got choice. If a small fish gets caught in his rod, he would probably release it back into the pond and go for the big fishes. The Real Catch.
Now which man do you want to Be?
Same thing with the Singapore situation. The government should focus their resources on promoting companies that teach men the art of getting good with women. Not on those just matching people up.
When you learn the Art of Attraction, you will have a choice of the women you want. Yu decide if you want to date that cute waitress at Coffee Bean. You decide if you want to proceed further with the pretty lady you met at Salsa. You decide if you want to pull into your life, that Hot Taiwanese model you got to know through your extensive social circle.
The choice is yours, not up to some admin person in the matchmaking agencies, playing God and matching people up.
