Did you know that the Teddy Bear got its name from a United States President? The origins of the Teddy Bear go back to a traditional story that took place in 1902 that involved President Theodore Roosevelt. The President was in the state of Missisippi trying to settle a border dispute between Mississippi and Louisiana. His hosts knew that the President was a devoted hunter, so they took him bear hunting. The only bear that they could find was a small bear that they tied to a tree. The President refused to shoot it, as he didn't see any sport in killing a helpless animal.
The story got out, and an editorial cartoonist for The Washington Post named Clifford Berryman drew a cartoon showing a cub bear tied to a tree, and Teddy Roosevelt refusing to shoot it. The cartoon carried the caption "Drawing The Line In Mississippi." The cartoon caused an immediate sensation and was reprinted many times. The owners of a candy and stationary store in Brooklyn, New York named Morris and Rose Michtom were inspired by the President's act and made a stuffed toy bear to honor him. They fashioned the toy bear to look like the bear in the cartoon, and placed it in the window of their shop. Next to the bear was a copy of Berryman's cartoon and a sign saying TEDDY'S BEAR. The public created such a demand for the bear that the Michtoms joined up with a wholesale firm named Butler Brothers and started the Ideal Novelty & Toy Company, the first teddy bear factory in the United States.
Made from inexpensive materials to the most exotic fur, and from the size of a thimble on up to very large, the Teddy Bear has been a perennial favorite of children and adults ever since.
Teddy Bears For Cheap
Chances are that you don't think about a teddy bear as a promotional item, but it's one of the most popular and best loved promotional items available for companies. Let's take a look and see what possibilities these adorable little bears have.
1. New baby
Of course, one of the main reasons that someone will buy a branded teddy bear is when a new baby is born. A branded teddy bear is a great thing to give an employee who has just welcomed a new baby into the family. It can also be given to a client who has had a new addition to the family.
2. Illness
Another reason why someone might be given a printed teddy bear is if they have been seriously ill. There's something comforting about having a teddy bear when you are in the hospital, since anyone in the hospital feels alone and scared.
3. Birthday
The last good reason to give someone a branded teddy bear is when they have a birthday. It can also be given to an employee's or client's child for a birthday gift.
Other than using them as gifts when someone has a baby, a birthday, or an illness, there are other good ways to use your promotional teddy bears. These will get the word out to even more people about your company.
1. Donate them as prizes
If the town is having a carnival, offer some of your promotional teddy bears as prizes. Your business will get exposure and the people running the carnival will save money by not having to buy prizes.
2. Donate them for a fund raiser
You can offer an organisation some of your printed teddy bears to sell for a fund raiser. This is a win/win situation for everyone considered, because you can claim it as a business expense on your taxes and your company will get exposure, while the organisation helps with its fund raising efforts.
A couple of things to think about when you are ordering promotional teddy bears:
1. Get at least two colours of bears – pink and blue usually work best.
2. Get different bears for different occasions – birthday, baby and illness.
In a world full of promotional items that are all the same, branded teddy bears are a refreshing change. They are a great way to welcome a new baby, wish someone a happy birthday, or cheer up someone who is sick. When you offer promotional teddy bears, you can be sure that they will be something that people will love, and they will remember your company as a company that cares about their employees and clients. Branded teddy bears are a great way to let your clients and employees know that you are there for them, in good times and bad.
