If you’ve ever bought an after-market mirror glass for your car, van or even truck, there’s a good chance it was produced by Summit Accessories in Banbury. Most of the glass is sealed in a blister on a card that carries both a written description of the Make, Model and Type of vehicle and also a bar code.
Meeting customer delivery requirements for a vast range of variants meant keeping a large stock of preprinted cards and also hand applying a range of labels for the less common ranges.
While retaining some pre-printed cards for the highest volume variants, Summit wanted to be able to print the rest of the cards on demand and to include an EAN barcode in the same area as the product description.
This is where Rotech came in. By supplying one of their Bell-Mark Thermal Transfer printers in combination with a versatile card feeder, they were able to offer everything Summit needed. The Versastyle software allowed all the formats to be stored on a dedicated PC and its advanced font scaling capabilities permitted large amounts of product information to be fitted into the designated overprint area.
Rotech were also able to supply the perfect grade of Thermal Ribbon to adhere to the adhesive coating on the card while delivering a first class print quality.

Thermal Transfer Label Printing
The label attached to a product is as important as the product itself. A lot of companies invest on label printing for their various products simply because products should be distinguished by their maker. The brand name and its label endows a product with the image and characteristics of the company. It tells the customer if it is an affordable high quality product or ?cheap? one. Small details about the product can also be printed on labels attesting to the materials and the quality of it and its maker. Label printing by itself can even raise a product's price just because the label is from a highly respected brand name. So if you are a big company with an established brand, or a small firm using its own custom label printing strategy, a label is an important part of sales and marketing.
If you are just about to start out and print your own labels, try and have a look at the items below. We have collected the three basic guidelines for printing labels. This should help you on how to design your labels, and help you understand how to bring this design from conception to the label printing company.
The Label Design
The design for your label is of course the most important part of custom label printing. Whole books for label design have been created for people to create the most beautiful can eye catching design. As a general guide, first look at the labels of you competition. They may use their company logo or other symbol as their mark. It may be some sort of animal, shape or group of characters. Once you have a good idea of what the competition looks think of a design that is different and distinguishable from your competitors. Once you have the right image in mind, try and create your design on paper or on your computer. Hire an expert if necessary to create a full color label printing for you to use. If you can, perform a survey on how people perceive the label design you just made and improve the design based on those feedbacks. Once you have a workable and unique design, its time to decide on the materials the label should be made off.
Label Material
Deciding on the label material is always determined by your product. You need to have materials that are resistant and durable against the various environments your product will encounter. If your product will encounter freezers and other cold environments you might want to invest on tough and moisture resistant labels. If the labels will be exposed outdoors you might need heavy duty materials like plastics to increase the life of the label. If you have a full color printing of your label design, then you also need materials that can maintain those colors well. Think of all these factors before you go to your label printing company so that you will have an easier time printing them. The label material should have a lifespan equal to your product itself or longer.
Printing the labels
Once you have created a nice design and have decided on its material, the final step is to go to your custom label printing service. Some printing services excel at printing labels more than others. A wise rule would be to checkout the custom label printing companies that specialize on labels, before going to other printing firms that have more general printing services. The more experience a printing company has on labels the better quality their labels should be. If you can, spend a considerable amount on printing your labels, since it makes your products uniquely yours.
That should cover the three main guidelines you should remember when custom label printing. Labels are an integral part of sales, so give it the same attention as your products.
