Sleigh beds are a type of bed suitable for bedrooms. They are quite popular in the United States. The design of this type of beds first originated in France. Americans adopted this French design in early 18th century. Such a bed provides an antique look to a bedroom. Sleigh beds with such antique look are quite easily available today.

The design of a sleigh bed is different from other beds that are generally found in a bedroom. The headboard of this type of bed is larger than its footboard and both of them are curved with their tops rolling outwards. The design of these beds would take you to those olden times when horse drawn sleighs were used.

Traditional design of Sleigh Beds uses wooden bars along their sides. The popularity of sleigh bed using wood is increasing day by day. But, sleigh beds made of metal are also available in the market. These beds lend a fabulous look to any bedroom. To give a more luxurious look to a sleigh bed, you should go for latest bed models that consist of padded leather headboards and upholstery.

Whenever people think of sleigh beds, they consider only those beds having the traditional sledge look. Such a look might appear to be beautiful, but it does not appeal to everyone. To meet their test, smaller, much sleeker looking sleigh beds are also available. This type of design appeals to younger people. These designs are much squarer, inspired by geometry and have less ornate details along headboard and footboard giving these designs a more contemporary minimal look. The designs may also do away with such details like custom wooden carvings like clawed feet giving it a much toned down look that might be more suitable for your lifestyle.

Some of these sleigh boards are also available without those matching curved footboard. Such a lack of footboard might give to the design an incomplete look, but it gives the bed a less unyielding appearance. These sleigh beds are not styled as per traditional look, but they provide an element of luxury to any bedroom.

Therefore, selection of a sleigh bed for your bedroom provides you with a lot of choice. You might either go for traditional ornate bed or opt for contemporary minimal design for such a sleigh bed. The choice is entirely yours as per your individual test.
