Wind Power For Residential

    View:
If you are looking to reduce your power bill or get off the grid completely, residential wind power is currently the simplest and cheapest way to do it.

A problem with wind power right now is that it is fairly expensive (though not as expensive as solar). If you were to go out and buy a wind turbine, you'll find that they might cost you $2000 to $6000 dollars.

If you have the right plans you can build your own, in fact. And it's not complicated, and it's not expensive. you can do it for around $150-$300 depending on the amount of power you want to produce.

What will you need to make your own wind generator?

You'll need a work area, good blueprints, basic tools and four to seven days.

What are the parts of a wind generator?

Four main parts in a generator are the blades and hub, the body with a DC motor, the tail and the tower. The blades will be the toughest part to build of the whole machine. They are still fairly easy with a good guide to move you along.

The motor is the most expensive component - at around 50-150$ depending on size. Your manual will detail what size motor you will need and all the technical stuff. The DC motor converts the spinning energy to electricity.

For the body it is best to use double walled stainless steel like that from a chimney pipe or wood stove. It is very cheap and easy to get and will last a long time.

The tail is simple and can be made from wood or plastic. You'll need it so that the turbine is always pointing in the direction of the wind.

For the tower, you can either build it from scratch too out of piping or recycle something like an old TV tower. People who have them in their yards may actually pay you to take them away.

These are some of the basics of building a wind turbine (and believe me, it doesn't get much more complicated). All you need now is a manual to get you started saving money and the environment.
Wind Power For Residential
The use of residential wind power in todays market has increased significantly. With the rising prices of utility companies power generation, alternative sources need to be developed. A large number of environmental groups and economists are encouraging the use of residential wind power. Wind power is a viable source for the common homeowner to reduce power bills.

Residential wind powers works in the way of having a wind turbine attached on top of a high tower so that the wind turbine can collect the kinetic energy and change this kinetic energy into electricity. The electricity then works through out your home like normal electricity that you are use to having coming into your home. Because a wind turbine can be even more effective giving off more electricity then is needed for the average home the utility companies usually offer a buy back system where they will buy back any unused electricity that has been supplied by the residential wind power. The turbine for residential wind power is small but effective. This alternative will help significantly when it comes to lowering your electric bill.

Not only will you be giving the environment a better chance of survival, You will also be reducing your electric bill. Residential wind power helps the environment in ways of pollution, because there is no output of pollution from a wind turbine. You are decreasing the amount of pollution put into the air by the utility company by producing your own power from the wind. During the lifetime of a wind turbine, the wind turbine can prevent 1.2 metric ton in air pollutants. This alone will help preserve the planet for future generations, especially our children. The cleaner the air, the better we breathe, the healthier we will all be.

Many residential customers think that converting to residential wind power will be hard or they will need to replace all the wiring in their home. The truth of the matter is that residential wind power can be hooked directly to any home with out the need to switch any of your current wiring or appliances. The only extra add on may be your utility company might install a second utility meter so that they can measure any surplus electricity they will be buying from the residential customer who is utilizing residential power wind. I would love to be paid by the utility company instead of having to pay them every month. Wind power for residential housing in a viable alternative source of power.
