It is good to know that in the present times a woman is not just looked upon as a child bearing and family rearing tool. She has been successful in breaking out of the conventional, conservative social stigmas attached to her. It is almost clich�d to say that today she has successfully managed to fit into the shoes of the men. She is the empowered independent woman who doesn't need to be provided for. She is self sufficient and is enabled and strong enough to live her life on her own terms, not to suit the likings of the others or for that matter the man of her life.



However, sometimes women empowerment is confused with what we call feminism. The term feminism has somewhat lost its actual meaning. Today most of the times we see that by feminism what is referred to is male thrashing and endless and unwarranted criticism of men. There are certain feminists who also advocate against the institution of marriage and bearing children and having a family. My question is does women empowerment means giving up on marriage, children and family? Does it mean walking out of a relationship at the slightest provocation and go about raving of strength and independence? Does adhering to the old values and morals signify weakness? Well, I must say that the terms like women empowerment and feminism are quite tricky and I believe that somewhere down the line they have lost their real meaning.

I for one am a fierce feminist. I believe that it is great that today women are standing up against the injustices that were meted out to them since time immemorial. Today women have come to a position where she can take a call. But all this in no way mean that you pull down the conventional but pious institutions and values. Marriage, I feel is one of the most important phases of one's life. Its not quite subordination for women, though in some cases it is. But should we attack the institution itself due to some bad examples. Living in a marital bond, having children and bringing up a family together is an incredible experience. These are the traditional roles of women no doubt, but they are not the millstones in the neck of womanhood as some so called feminists claim to be. To face the truth it is practically impossible to live through life all alone, with no body at your back, without being loved and cared for. Man and woman are every bit a social animal. Women empowerment in no way means giving up the traditional roles of women, but it is entirely subjective and it's her call when and with whom she wants to get married, when to start a family, which career to choose, so on and so forth.

Some feminists also tend to support acts in name of women empowerment that are actually immoral. It is time that women for their sake stop crossing the line. There are many women who are suffering as a result of this so called feminism. Working women who are single mothers are finding it hard to manage on their own. The instances of depression induced suicide are drastically high among these women as against their counterparts. Especially, single motherhood is easier said than done. Bringing up a child is a massive responsibility and it is to be born by both the father and the mother.
